Does any one know how to decode the D-Star Digital transmission with out buying a $500 D-Star Digital radio?

If you have your amateur license then you can use a DV dongle. Otherwise there is no cheap way of listening.
A few icom receivers have an optional add on board to decode Dstar but again those are going to be over $500.

That is for use over the internet, not receiving over the air which is what the op is asking about.
stormycat - you must have a ham d-star frequency in mind that you want to listen to. Your only
choice is to look around for some used d-star gear and purchase it for what you wish to listen
in on.
thanks i didn't think there was any way of decoding it (off air) not through the internet with the dongle. i already have a 91AD and was looking for another way of decoding it. guess theres not.

If you already have a 91AD then I am confused as to why you posted such a request.
A DV Dongle would also work only if the dstar repeater or system was connected to an active gateway.
If not then the dongle would be useless.

Yes - I have seen that and it is very interesting, but....
It is not for anyone who is timid about working on and inside
modern micro radio electronics and the micro sized parts within
them and would require that someone doing so be well versed on
working on smd electronics and common esd practices.
Also - unless i missed it there is no info yet on what this interface
board will cost.
