Going to put this down before I forget. When District 7 IDOT Effingham dispatch asks for road condition report they have a road status code 1-6 (Which I have not been able to figure out) and a operations code toward the end of their transmission. They would normally say "9-0-8-0".
Breaking this down is
"People Working On Shift - How Many Short On Shift - Trucks Plowing - Trucks Down

I monitor District 6 primarily and they do not normally say the operation code just the road status code. If anyone has the road status codes I would appreciate it. I emailed the IDOT to see if I could obtain the information with no luck as of yet. I could stop by the IDOT shed and ask but from previous expierence they are not very friendly.

IDOT used to have the codes on their web site before they upgraded a while back.

1. Road clear, normal winter driving condition.
2. Widely scattered slick spots.
3. 25% snow and ice covered.
4. 50% snow and ice covered.
5. 75% snow and ice covered.
6. 100% snow and ice covered.

Thanks N9LOB, and usswood. I didn’t know they had a wiki, looked it up and found the codes. IDOT did respond back with

  • Code 1: All Clear – Pavement is clear of ice and snow.
  • Code 2: Scattered – Scattered slick spots on pavements and bridge decks, or wet freezing pavements.
  • Code 3: 75% Bare – Pavement clear except for a narrow strip on the edge.
  • Code 4: 50% Bare – When a strip of ice or packed snow, some 4’ wide, remains in the center of the pavement with a 2’ to 3’ strip along each edge.
  • Code 5: 25% Bare – When there is a narrow strip of bare pavement from 6” to 2’ in each lane where the tires travel.
  • Code 6: Snow Covered – When the pavement on a route or portion of the District is covered with ice or packed snow.
