Kenwood: D710G Status 5

Since the documentation from Kenwood is somewhat lacking, looking for some info on the D710G as it relates to APRS. In order to insert voice band operating frequency into beacons, everything says to use Status 5 1/1. With that said, factory default on mine has Status 5 blank the same as the remaining statuses. Is there something required to turn this on in Status 5 or do you actually enter the [Freq MHz] string into the Status 5 text box?

In order to get a TM-D710A to transmit your current operating frequency (on the other side of the radio from the side you are using for APRS), Status 5 has to be activated and set to transmit periodically (1/1, 1/2, etc.). You do not need to insert [Freq MHz] into Status 5 as it's assumed. You cannot manually insert [Freq MHz] into any other status and get it to transmit your operating frequency.

This is now the D710A works. I know that they made some firmware tweaks in the D710GA, but I don't know if the status message functionality was affected.
