In case you have not heard, Dakota County ("Empire") is going encrypted on their Law Mains effective 20 September 2023.
If this is old news, I apologize for the extra posting.

As planned Dakota Switched to the new encrypted law mains this morning. So far today I have still heard some Car to Car traffic in the clear but I expect that will disappear soon. From what I can track the new main are:
4545 replaces 4300 Law main 1
4546 replaces 4302 Law main 2
4547 replaces 4304 Law main 3

@stmills As planned? Was this announced anywhere? As far as I can tell, and I have scoured every place I can think of, I've found nothing. No public notices. No council meetings. I even checked every city's website in the county and find nothing. Thanks

As far as I know no big announcement or press conference saying we are going encrypted. Dakota 911 has been planning for the change to happen in September 2023 for over a year and it has been talked about in meetings for over 2 years.

Thanks for your reply. I have known Dakota had been discussing the change since Hennepin County encrypted in 2019. It seems peculiar that a large county like Dakota would not involve its constituency prior to making a policy and operational change this significant. Particularly after seeing the dissonance Hennepin realized after they made the change there. Do you know, @stmills , was there ANY official announcement made to the public, not necessarily a "big" one. Like I said, I am finding nothing at all still and you seem to have some knowledge about these kind of things in Dakota. I look forward to your response. Thanks ahead of time.

I am unaware of any announcements to the public that they were switching from an open talkgroup to an encrypted talkgroup. Dakota did the switch a bit different from some others where the old and new were patched together for a period of time, the just made a hard switch and it was over to encryption. Again the Sept 2023 date has been the time line for as long as it has been moving forward.

So in the immediate metro that leaves Anoka, Washington, Ramsey & Carver (for now) left open. Sounds like the plan to encrypt the entire Twin Cities Metro area is on.

I hope Wright County doesn't join the club anytime soon....

Spring 2024 for Wright County to go encrypted.
Did you hear that as just Law? I was talking to a Wright County Dispatcher a few weeks ago, and mentioned them going Encrypted. He said he doesn't think Fire will join due to cost for each Department. Just Law Enforcement.

I have heard only law enforcement and law enforcement is doing it because neighboring counties are or have gone encrypted.

I can see why Icom and Unidens new radios coming out don’t have P25. Every year more and more agencies are going encrypted.

Forgot Washington County is still in the clear. Will need to write a new codeplug at some point to clear out all the encrypted agencies still in one of my 2500's.

My source is solid - I have not heard anything on State Patrol Mains - I know they have added so encrypted Tac talkgroups in most districts but that is it, news reports are stating Sherburne is moving to some encrypted channels by the end of this year.

And Wright Co LE radios have been ENC capable since they went onto ARMER in January 2010 as Buffalo, Annandale, and Howard Lake Police Tacticals have always been ENC as have WR's Law 4, Law 5, ERT, SIU1 and SIU2. Law 4 and Law 5 see about 0.3% the traffic of the law main.

Yeah I’ve known that too. Have always wondered what they used law 4 and 5 for. Very rare to see traffic on them
