Hi

Last evening DAL228 was crossing the sector, I noticed the contrails and shot a few pics. I went to my RB and noticed that they were not painting. I have seen a few flights like this before, heading to Europe but nothing appears on screen - except for the Mode-S data. Why would they not be transmitting ADS-B? Or do they only activate it when going oceanic?

Thanks

Because the United States does not require ADS-B, every airline is different.

It would be interesting to find out how and why a US airline goes from not sending ADS-B to sending it on an international flight. Is there something in the charts that says, "Begin transmitting your location data here"? Why not just leave it on all of the time?

And, while we're at it, why not enter proper flight numbers for every flight?

HA! I have a collection of some very creative ones I've seen here.
