Thank you sir. One more question what’s the difference between Dallas Layer 1 and 2? Which units would be on each layer? There's little if any activity left on it. Anything that was there, should be on https://www.radioreference.com/db/sid/7349.
I imagine and hope that they will take down the Local Government system all together soon. I have Unitrunker running on it, keeping an eye on it. Where I'm located, it's not very strong, and the 857.9875 control channel usually does not come in at all for me.
That's not totally clear yet, but basically police and fire are on Layer 1 and Public Works on Layer 2. However, much of the fire and police stuff can also be heard on Layer 2.Thank you sir. One more question what’s the difference between Dallas Layer 1 and 2? Which units would be on each layer?
Copy that. Thanks you for all the help. That's not totally clear yet, but basically police and fire are on Layer 1 and Public Works on Layer 2. However, much of the fire and police stuff can also be heard on Layer 2.
What radios are they using? All of Dallas PD and FD is currently being sent out on both layers.
Okay, this is a newbie question with apologiesTrying to monitor this system but my radio isn’t picking up any transmissions. Is this system still being use? Never had a problem monitoring a type ii system before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So basically all you programmed the scanner with is the talkgroups you want to hear, but you need the frequencies for the scanner to listen to and provide you with audio. The frequencies are on the Site. In Proscan at the top of that same list you found the talkgroups you will see the Site Names. You need to Check Dallas Layer 1 AND all the Talkgroups.I have no idea which sites are Dallas Layer 1 site. I have downloaded all Dallas County municipalities and agencies, with a plan to cull the list based on my photography goals.
I have attached a snippet of my list of Dallas Police sites. The issue is NOT how many sites I have downloaded, but that NONE of them have any chatter. So if I downloaded the wrong list, please advise.
I am waiting for the DPD to provide more information. As of this moment, it's dead silent on those sites. I did hear one byte of chatter on DPD Central analog, where one officer told another to go to the radio shop to switch out radios. Dallas Fire is still using their analog radios.
Looks like his system type is also “Mot”, it should be P25.So basically all you programmed the scanner with is the talkgroups you want to hear, but you need the frequencies for the scanner to listen to and provide you with audio. Those TGIDs are from the old Dallas City Local Government systems, which is Moto. Most of it's frequencies have been repurposed & used on the Dallas 2 layer on NTIRN.Looks like his system type is also “Mot”, it should be P25.
Import the NTIRN system, and select the Dallas Layer 1 & Dallas Layer 2 sites.I have no idea which sites are Dallas Layer 1 site. I have downloaded all Dallas County municipalities and agencies, with a plan to cull the list based on my photography goals.

For the kind of monitoring I do - police / fire / news - dropping $700 for the Uniden SDS scanners is just not a good investment. The BCD325P2 isn't a good choice for the NTIRN Dallas system either. It's probably a big deal but the truth is you need to consider the SDS series Uniden scanner for this and other systems in the Metroplex. I sold my own 325P2 after it refused to track a simple VHF single channel simulcast radio system. Even the overpriced TRX won't really cut it, you'll just get mad at it and take it out to the gun range and fill it full of brass and send it back to its manufacturer with a nasty note on it. Save yourself ALL of that and bite the bullet and get an SDS! Eating raman noodles for a month won't hurt ya ...
That's BS. Whoever said that knows absoutely nothing about radio. They say Fire is also traditionally louder as the coverage needs to go further..
I think they mean that the audio from the speakers and handhelds on a fire scene needs to be loud to be able to be heard over the loud noise environment while they are operating and the audio needs to travel further from the speaker. That's BS. Whoever said that knows absoutely nothing about radio.
That's still BS. Firefighters aren't the only people who use radios in high noise environments.I think they mean that the audio from the speakers and handhelds on a fire scene needs to be loud to be able to be heard over the loud noise environment while they are operating and the audio needs to travel further from the speaker.
