Trying to monitor this system but my radio isn’t picking up any transmissions. Is this system still being use? Never had a problem monitoring a type ii system before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's little if any activity left on it. Anything that was there, should be on https://www.radioreference.com/db/sid/7349.
I imagine and hope that they will take down the Local Government system all together soon. I have Unitrunker running on it, keeping an eye on it. Where I'm located, it's not very strong, and the 857.9875 control channel usually does not come in at all for me.

Thank you sir. One more question what’s the difference between Dallas Layer 1 and 2? Which units would be on each layer?

That's not totally clear yet, but basically police and fire are on Layer 1 and Public Works on Layer 2. However, much of the fire and police stuff can also be heard on Layer 2.

Okay, this is a newbie question with apologies :)

Dallas Police Department is moving to the Project 25 radio system.

Ahead of this change, I purchased a new scanner – BCD325P2 from Uniden – and the ProScan software.

I realized something was happening today (Monday) as there was absolutely no radio traffic on the analog frequencies (except for Dallas Fire).

I downloaded the latest files from RadioReference.com

And I get – ZIP. I am not hearing a single transmission on any of the new Project 25 channels. Not a beep, not a peep, not a damn word.

I spoke to an awesome customer service tech and Uniden, who noted your database was last updated about a week ago.

Am I missing something – a setting in the database file, a key word, etc – that would make the scanner come alive with radio traffic today?

Is that something going to show up in the next RR update??

I have asked the DPD for information on this, but I have a feeling that request is going to be ignored.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

How many sites on the NTIRN radio system did you load into your download? You only the need Dallas Layer 1 site, and the selected talkgroups for Dallas PD.

I have no idea which sites are Dallas Layer 1 site. I have downloaded all Dallas County municipalities and agencies, with a plan to cull the list based on my photography goals.

I have attached a snippet of my list of Dallas Police sites. The issue is NOT how many sites I have downloaded, but that NONE of them have any chatter. So if I downloaded the wrong list, please advise.

I am waiting for the DPD to provide more information. As of this moment, it's dead silent on those sites. I did hear one byte of chatter on DPD Central analog, where one officer told another to go to the radio shop to switch out radios. Dallas Fire is still using their analog radios.

So basically all you programmed the scanner with is the talkgroups you want to hear, but you need the frequencies for the scanner to listen to and provide you with audio. The frequencies are on the Site. In Proscan at the top of that same list you found the talkgroups you will see the Site Names. You need to Check Dallas Layer 1 AND all the Talkgroups.

Looks like his system type is also “Mot”, it should be P25.

he is also using a scanner not designed for simulcast so thats going to be an issue as well.
EDIT
The screenshot the OP posted is of the COG/Dal P25 system. NOT the NTIRN system. So you have the wrong system your trying to listen to.

Those TGIDs are from the old Dallas City Local Government systems, which is Moto. Most of it's frequencies have been repurposed & used on the Dallas 2 layer on NTIRN.

Import the NTIRN system, and select the Dallas Layer 1 & Dallas Layer 2 sites.

For now, the analog conventional channels are still in use, and normally its patched to NTIRN. The field element could be on the old channels, or the trunked system talkgroups, but still can be heard on both.

Once everyone is moved over, and familiar with how to use the new system, Dallas Public Safety, Dallas PD as well as Dallas Fire Rescue (both fire & EMS) should be on Dallas Layer 1. At present, I am seeing them pop up on either site in my logs.

The various Dallas departments, other than public safety, should consolidate on Dallas Layer 2, along with the smaller cities and Dallas County.

The BCD325P2 isn't a good choice for the NTIRN Dallas system either. It's probably a big deal but the truth is you need to consider the SDS series Uniden scanner for this and other systems in the Metroplex. I sold my own 325P2 after it refused to track a simple VHF single channel simulcast radio system. Even the overpriced TRX won't really cut it, you'll just get mad at it and take it out to the gun range and fill it full of brass and send it back to its manufacturer with a nasty note on it. Save yourself ALL of that and bite the bullet and get an SDS! Eating raman noodles for a month won't hurt ya ...

For the kind of monitoring I do - police / fire / news - dropping $700 for the Uniden SDS scanners is just not a good investment.

Now, if in six months, I find it's not worth it, then I might re-think my decision.

In re the Dallas system, you may have noticed the volume on the analog DPD channels is just horrible. I sent video of the scanner in action to DPD, and finally got this reply from the PIO. There's no hard date on the transition yet - they tried it about two weeks ago and it was so botched they went back to analog within a day.

ASA

As new units are transitioned, they come in a lower volume it is digital and compressed.

They say Fire is also traditionally louder as the coverage needs to go further.

Once all radios are transitioned there will no longer be an audio issue.

ITS says the information on the transition and radios is on radioreference.com as they are sure you are already aware.

That's BS. Whoever said that knows absoutely nothing about radio.
I think they mean that the audio from the speakers and handhelds on a fire scene needs to be loud to be able to be heard over the loud noise environment while they are operating and the audio needs to travel further from the speaker.

That's still BS. Firefighters aren't the only people who use radios in high noise environments.
