They probably do not understand the how to properly program their APX radios and the different profiles that you can use for the audio settings. Gotta love PIO's most are in that position because they have failed everything else!
Probably best to stop reaching out to the police when you have scanner questions. In re the Dallas system, you may have noticed the volume on the analog DPD channels is just horrible. I sent video of the scanner in action to DPD, and finally got this reply from the PIO. There's no hard date on the transition yet - they tried it about two weeks ago and it was so botched they went back to analog within a day.

As new units are transitioned, they come in a lower volume it is digital and compressed.
They say Fire is also traditionally louder as the coverage needs to go further.
Once all radios are transitioned there will no longer be an audio issue.
ITS says the information on the transition and radios is on radioreference.com as they are sure you are already aware.
I believe in your Sentinel program you have an option to increase the volume. I have the new system at +2 which works fine.In re the Dallas system, you may have noticed the volume on the analog DPD channels is just horrible. I believe so. Currently, it appears Cockrell Hill and DPS are the only two regular users, and I suspect that's going to be changing very soon. There's an encrypted Grand Prairie East IO channel as well that occasionally gets used. Other than a few stray hits in Unitrunker, I haven't seen any Dallas LG/PW users using it, same with the Local Government system, analog system.Has all Dallas City local government migrated off the Dallas P25 / NCTCOG Trunking System, Dallas, Fort Worth Area, Texas system?
It is a codec compression issue, the Houston system had the same teething problems on the fire side. They will make the adjustments and realize they have the compression too high. Also after using an analog system for so long, they will need to get used to the sounds of the digital audio that, even with less compression, will still sound different. In re the Dallas system, you may have noticed the volume on the analog DPD channels is just horrible. I'm seeing the same as you are. The only active user I'm seeing on the Dallas Simulcast site of the Dallas P25/NCTCOG is Cockrell Hill, and only DPS appears to be actively using the Dallas NCTCOG site. The Collin, Denton, & Tarrant county sites are not in range for me. I do occasionally hear DPS units referring to the CTP tollway in Tarrant & Johnson County on the Dallas site, but no way to tell (from my location) as to whether that CTP traffic is also repeated on the Tarrant County site (is it still active?). By the same token, are DPS units on the DNT & SRT tollways in Collin County popping up occasionally on the Collin County site?I believe so. you are the man. I'm paying more attention to this now since I've bought a house in the area and I'll be moving up within the next year. 😏We're on it, Dude. There seems to be some delay to the migration, possibly due to the computer hacking. I'm anxious to deprecate those systems, as well.
Welcome back to Big D.you are the man. I'm paying more attention to this now since I've bought a house in the area and I'll be moving up within the next year. 😏
Wonder if thats why my apx sounds better than my KNG2 or Unication G4. Often times i can have all 3 devices on the same channel (lets use fire dispatch as an example) and audio will cut out on the KNG 2 and G4 but works fine on the APX. To me it mimics how AGC used to work. Which i hated and always had off. I will hear audio then it just cuts out and comes back. It does this repeatedly. And other times all 3 work great. I can always reproduce this around i30 and Ferguson rd. Which also had me thinking interference from Verizon 700 band. But again just guessing. But im chalking it up to a new system and hoping they are not done tweaking it.It is a codec compression issue, the Houston system had the same teething problems on the fire side. I'm not sure if this means anything to you LB but CJ said a while back what we call layer 1 was actually 18 channels. Though the DB shows only 12, if you merge in the 6 channels from NCTCOG to NTIRN you get 18 channels.you are the man. Is this what is happening to the Dallas PD channels? I'm new here but what to see if I'm able to help whoever hosts the NC 6 channel bc I know equipment has to be updated. I'm really not sure who to contact about it.I'm not sure if this means anything to you LB but CJ said a while back what we call layer 1 was actually 18 channels. Yeah it's been hit or miss. I'm concerned with ch 6 north central because that's where I live and the neighborhood I live in a sketchy so having the scanner on my phone is very helpful. Maybe I'm just being impatient?Yes someone should let the live feed person who hosts DPD ch3 , 4 and 7. hearing nothing but noise. I'm wondering it they will continue carrying the feed from the new system if they have the equipment to do so ?
Ill look into it this weekend.Yes someone should let the live feed person who hosts DPD ch3 , 4 and 7. hearing nothing but noise. I'm wondering it they will continue carrying the feed from the new system if they have the equipment to do so ?
