Which direction were they headed? I have not seen any news about scheduled airborne memorials in Texas today, but haven't searched extensively.

Yep. I took a quick look at some of the scheduled events in various places, but none specified a flyover. (I looked at several different media pages, and while there was some overlap, not all of the events on one page were listed elsewhere, probably due to space.) There are likely events elsewhere in North Texas that were not included on a news story, but no idea of one of the unlisted ones included the flight (or if one of the listed events had a flyover that was not mentioned in the brief online post).
