IN GENERAL, even though the sheriff frequency is programmed into fire radios, the fire Administrators adopt a policy to NOT have field personnel use that channel WITHOUT FIRST GETTING ADMINISTRATIVE PERMISSION. This can create emergency response delays, but because of LIABILITY ISSUES, the policy is adopted to cover their butts in not allowing INDIVIDUALS to determine which communications are serious enough to get the sheriff's dept. involved. It is unfortunate that $$$ liability and 'mal practice' issues create delays in saving lives, but the Administrators have to report to the City or County managers and attorneys if something goes wrong. Just a fact of city business that everyone has to live (or die) with.
