Anybody know more about the freqs DCSO uses? I know the numbers .. but I'm talking more operations types of things. Like when they'd be on a certain freq and why ... also, what comm equip are they equipped with in terms of being able to communicate with other pub safety personnel?

The most recent FCC info that I have is exactly the same as what is in the forum database...

The equipment that I saw some time ago in two cruisers at a restaurant was Kenwood.

Gary is right. That's pretty much all the frequencies they use. Though I don't think I've ever heard anything on WISPERN... Often the tactical (ch 5) channel will be patched up with a MPD tactical talkgroup if they're both responding to a call. I've also once or twice heard a couple of them on MARC II and the A-F fire/ems channels...but there's usually not a need for them to be there.

Does that help?

This is slightly unreleated, but a couple of times I have also heard fire/ems units (accidently) on Sheriff dispatch (ch 1). Why they have this frequency in their radios with transmit I'm not quite sure... I believe it was Town rescue 66 I heard on there once, and I can't remember who else.

Are you a FF/EMT here in Dane County? If so, which department?

yeah, I'm a FF/EMT with Monona ... in some of our radios (portables, and on r62), we've got sheriff 1 ... I dont know why ... I've always pushed for having a police dispatch channel ... too bad they're all trunked.

IN GENERAL, even though the sheriff frequency is programmed into fire radios, the fire Administrators adopt a policy to NOT have field personnel use that channel WITHOUT FIRST GETTING ADMINISTRATIVE PERMISSION. This can create emergency response delays, but because of LIABILITY ISSUES, the policy is adopted to cover their butts in not allowing INDIVIDUALS to determine which communications are serious enough to get the sheriff's dept. involved. It is unfortunate that $$$ liability and 'mal practice' issues create delays in saving lives, but the Administrators have to report to the City or County managers and attorneys if something goes wrong. Just a fact of city business that everyone has to live (or die) with.

Dane County runs Motorola.

Trust me on this ,they buy them from my company *wink*

They been buying the XTS serires portables.

Most of the mobiles are 110 Watt spectras.

Kenwood ? You can tell who has the Kenwood on Dane Ch 1 by the squelch tail they leave. Motorola and kenwood's reverse burst are different. I wont go into detail but you can just tell ;-)
