Dare Co Updated

This has got to be the fasted populated system in the database, I'm very impressed by all the contributions from the locals.

jsncrso, I made the additions to the database and sent you an email.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B206 Safari/7534.48.3)

Buxton site is changing to a Multicast Site within the system. The remaining sites will still be Simulcast. VIPER on the other hand will remain unchanged...multicast at all sites. Making simulcast work with the water and all the sites virtually in a straight line is almost impossible.....glad to see that they are making the change. It still has the potential lto create problems but hopefully with the middle site being multicast it wont be as evident.

This is what I was trying to say earlier when the forum was posting blanks.

The simulcast setup is the worst possible thing to do in this area, being surrounded by water. Quite frankly, I hope they make the whole Dare County system site trunking. Otherwise, it's a great system.

Coming back into this conversation late after a relaxing weekend
away from work & radios :)
Great job by everyone in coordinating system info and helping
each other out!
This is why IMHO the NC forum is the best one here at RR.com!
Happy Monitoring

Multipath interference is raising it's ugly head on my feed today :( I'm going to set the paging frequency back to priority even though the voice is quieter

Well I decided to flip the switch and turn on law enforcement TGs on both Dare's P25 and VIPER systems. What I find interesting is that most LEO traffic comes through VIPER and not Dare's system. Also, the voice sounds a lot less clear and more compressed (lower baud rate?).

Anyways, I'm probably going to leave the feed combined police/fire/EMS and set up a second feed for just the analog paging frequency so more casual listeners who just want to hear "the main stuff" can listen without all the traffic. I was going to set up a feed for KIG77 but it does not come in clear anymore on any of my scanners (it used to) and none do mil-air so no bombing range feed. Thoughts?

I'll turn it off and just leave Dare's system on but that's what I did this morning and was hearing nothing. I'll try again though.

Hey jsn...love the feeds but the paging frequency appears to be low volume from time to time. I first thought it was just my laptop speakers so I got a pair of amplified ones and I have them cranked and still can't hear the pages very loud. Is that just the system or can you control the volume from your end? Thanks.

Yea, due to the narrowbanding it's very quiet. I have the paging frequency set up as a separate system in my scanner and I have the "volume offset" on the ARCXT software set to +1 for it. I'll try setting it to +3 and see what that does. I just hate that the tones are so much louder than the voice. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to get software to normalize the volume level as it comes in so everything is the same. As I said in an earlier post, I may set up a separate feed just for the paging channel for the more casual listeners. Right now I'm still adjusting things here and there so any feedback is much appreciated!

BTW, whoever changed the image that shows up in the media player for the feed, thanks! I had a max of 21 listeners during the height of the storm yesterday.

Great!! I will see how it sounds here and let ya know. I do notice the PD is somewhat louder than the paging freq and because you are streaming it on the same link, I keep adjusting the volume to compensate..lol. Looking forward to when you stream the paging channel on its own. I am more of a FD/EMS buff anyway. Thanks again for the online scanner.

Narrowbanding ALONE shouldn't make the carrier quiet, so long as the receiver is set up to receive the signal in narrowband. There is something wrong with the throughput of the signal at some point along the line because the tones are of normal volume and the voice is very under-modulated. Hopefully they can get to the bottom if it.

Also, the voice sounds a lot less clear and more compressed (lower baud rate?)...

When I was there last summer, the VIPER site was analog and the Dare system was P25 digital... the digital audio makes all of the difference in the world.

I am coming back on the 16th (getting close) Again, kudos on the feed.

It appears to be "fixed" now. Setting the volume offset to +3 on that frequency did the trick. The only thing that's annoying is that the tones are loud, but the scanner (or sound card) seems to dampen the tones somewhat so that's a good thing. I'm probably going to have to order a yagi since the multipath interference is becoming a problem. Look for the fire/EMS "paging only" feed to be up by tomorrow night.

The past week, I stayed in Corolla but two days I was in the Dare County area. I picked up a couple new talkgroups. Not positive on who exactly uses each talkgroup

14559-sounded like a phone busy sound. (encrypted talkgroup?)
14728-sounded like a phone busy sound. (encrypted talkgroup?)
14748-sounded like a phone busy sound. (encrypted talkgroup?)
14780-People were talking but I could not tell what department they were with

Yea, those are the encrypted town PD talkgroups. The last one is a general town of KDH talkgroup I believe. There are still some not listed on the RR page.
