Dare fire comms

Also, I forgot to mention it but most of the fire comms I heard were on NSFS 151.22 repeater

I heard a plane on the repeater checking in, and ground units talking to each other. Some of the units were not using normal NCFS IDss but sounds like tactical IDs. I am assuming from other agencies working the fire.

I did not hear anything on VIPER regarding the fire, and I monitored all the neighboring sites in open mode. was in Columbia which is about 35 miles or so from the fire so I probably should have heard them as I was hearing Chowan County and Pasquotank Animal Control (VIPER site is in Eliz City like approx 45 air miles or so away) from Columbia.

Win96 works great with your Pro-2096. You can download the data straight from the RadioReference site with it. Your subscription to RR allows it. I do this with Win96 and made separate setups (called virtual scanners) that I can swap out depending on where I drive to. Makes it simple and easy. Of course knowing how to manually program the scanner allows me to make minor changes if I am on the road and want to add a freq manually or change the search freqs. Make sure to get the programming cable or build one. I bought one from Radio Shack and it works.

Keep in mind that the Pro-2096 freq range on 800 MHZ is 806-823.9875, 849-868.9875, and 894-960 MHz. Win96 software allows for customized tables to be added and rebanded freqs to be added that you can not add manually once rebanding happens. The software allows the addition of freqs of of the normal freq range (except cellular of course). Once VIPER rebands, you'll need the software (from what I understand).

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information about the Dare County System. I must be doing something wrong when I a programing it by hand. I programmed the Richmond, VA TRS System by hand at home and didn't have any problems and I am picking up everything I wanted to hear. The Dare System looks very close to the Richmond System yet I am not hearing a thing here in Kill Devil Hills. I programmed all the channels and Tacs that are listed on Radio Reference but I have yet to hear anything. Anybosy have any tips on what I might be doing wrong. THANKS

I have the same scanner, Pro 2096 & was down there 2 weeks ago & only caught radio traffic here & there with the unit using a decent mobile & then base antenna. Not sure why but the Pro 2096 has done well with other systems, just doesn't seem to on this one. I'm headed back down next week & will try more options...

I dont think the licenses have been granted by the FCC yet. I looked several weeks ago and all the licenses I checked near me (Winfall, Eliz City etc) have not changed. The VIPER forum people are asking the same question and I know the VIPER techs are on that forum. They were supposed to already but the FCC granted them an extension (over a year ago), from what I read when reading the forums.

Beach Pirate, did you program the information from this link:

Dare County Public Safety System Trunking System, Manteo, North Carolina - Scanner Frequencies

There are several 800 systems for Dare listed, and the one above is the new one what what I am reading. I am just outside the limit from that system (in other words, just too far away to hear it). I am in Chowan County (near Edenton). I can just barely tell the controller is up but its too weak to hear anything on).

I finally heard a transmission again on 164.625 and the pl is 186.2. I had stopped the scanner on that freq overnight and left it in pl mode. It woke me up around 2 or so (I thought I was too far away to hear it) and they were talking about the fire.

Dare county

Is Dare County going to phase 2 TDMA or staying on phase 1 FDMA? I heard they were staying on FDMA

I finally got my 996T, and I can join in on the fun.... So far, it has been interesting. I have logged, and ID'd a few other TGs besides the ones listed.... I will be submitting the info to the DB soon...

I have heard the same traffic over here in KDH.... Fairly strong signal... Then again I am using a 5/8 over 5/8 wave 6.5db gain antenna.....

Those frequencies are the ones i used. I moved the scanner to another part of the house last night and it started coming in pretty good for the most part. The signal however is no where near as strong richmond trs group.

I wonder if the KDH Ocean Rescue Lifeguards are getting these $3000 radios? Or are they remaining on UHF? There are a LOT of lifeguard stands to equip with radios..

i've been hearing some ocean rescue and other beach patrols on unlisted dare tgs for the past week or so. I'll try to log a few more tgs and post them up if I figure out what they actually are.

So far I have a few encrypted TG, mainly one for each town, as well as a few other TGs that aren't listed in the DB.

14667 is just called Training. It was being used by some ground personel with the fire when someone came into the area and didn't have the full system programmed into their radio.
14638 is Fire Tac 17.
14654 is Fire Tac 50.

14748 is I believe is being called KH Tac 1 and it is sounding encrypted.
14773 is being called "Admin" and is also encrypted. I think I've only heard KDH units using it but not 100% sure.
There have been a few others but I can't figure out who's using them.
