Hi everyone, I was bound and determined to hear more fire ops. I went to US Hwy 64 again for over 4 hours and sat and searched 162.6-173.99 and had another radio on 172.675 and 164.625 only. I heard 172.675 with water distribution ops using the same repeater I heard when I posted about the hourly weather transmission report on that same repeater about 2 weeks ago. There is a pl tone of 118.8 (which I could not get before). NC Forestry is on there using their state callsigns (exampe 13xx for district 13 units). There are other callsigns such as xray 21 talking to the NC units. They refer to the repeater as channel 11. I listened for 4 hours straight and I did hear reports saying they wanted to switch out some of the tractors with state forestry units. I did not hear anything regarding the fire on VIPER or 164.625 today.

See ya

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Just finished a trip to the Outer Banks & a great climb up the Hatteras Light.

The Park rangers there are using Motorola XTS-5000 Model 3 HTs on
166.2750 P25. I was too busy to snag the NAC though.

NCFS "X" calls are plow/hauling unit call signs, so if that corresponds to the kind of traffic you're hearing from those X calls, it's a good bet they're the plows. The "21" would correspond to 13X21 which falls into the numbering scheme for a plow assigned to the Dare Bomb Range area of Dare County. IIRC, 13-20's, 13-30's, and 13-60's are mainland Dare call signs.

Radios used by NPS Cape Hatteras NS

Jeff..... Any radio changes going on on Hatteras Island will be known by K4HAT, a poster here on the forum.... He would certainly know.

Based upon the radio information provided to the state when they requested VIPER ID's, they have APX7000 portables and APX7500 mobiles that are dual band 700/800 and VHF with P25.

Hi Mike.... 166.275 p25 tx located on new / old Coast Guard tower at the old Coast HQ new Park HQ Buxton....which supports their newest greatest Rescue 25 and a half and also has NOAA 162.475 on it about 1/2 way up.

rangers carry extended battery xts 7000 which is like a first genMoto brick about two feet long and must be 8 pounds. apx7500 mobiles, for obviously Viper and the Dare fiasco. rest of staff xts 5000 on high band.

Mike someday we need to talk about viper ID/s for Hatteras Fire Dept. We DO go to Ocracoke.

Richard, you might want to check with Dave Kelmer since he requested and received VIPER ID's for Hatteras VFD.

If possible, can anyone in the Dare County area confirm the usage and tones for these frequencies:

163.0750 103.5 NPS Bodie Island
164.7250 103.5 NPS Buxton

169.6500
166.8500
169.5500 (logged May 2010, P25)

Also, any US Army, Coast Guard, or other military repeaters in the area? I'm programming the scanner and radios for an upcoming trip, and I would appreciate any confirmation on the above frequencies and their uses.

Thanks!

Jake, I can confirm 166.625, 725 and 169.550 but that's all so far. will reply again after the scan goes a little while. Sorry for the reply delay , like a idiot I did not even realize there were PM/s on the site !!!!!
Have you already come and gone ?

I actually never made it out there this spring... a fall trip might still be in though...

So we have 166.275 as NPS Buxton and 166.625 and 169.550 as mystery locations?

Are there any FWS refuges in the area that would account for those FWS freqs? Is 171.575 ever heard in use as air to ground?
