Does anyone out there know if Livonia fire is using a specific tower?.I'm getting dispatch on 155.790
but nothing on the 800 trunked channels. I have the correct channels and tg's programmed from RR database. My thinking is I don't have the right tower programmed.
Thank you in advance. Darrell

Are you using the Wayne County Simulcast? Try the Northville tower or Southfield tower.

Thanks. I have the Northville and Southfield towers in but I'm still using the old pro96 and it
doesn't like simulcast very much. I now I need to upgrade, but with so many agencies going
encrypted,i'm afraid to buy one and find it useless in a couple of years.

Note that both of those sites (Northville & Southfield) have a mix of 800 as well as 700MHz frequencies. While you can "unlock" the Pro-96 to accept 700MHz frequencies, it will not trunk track that band. So if the control channel instructs the system radios (as well as the scanner) to use one of the 700MHz channels, the scanner cannot follow the conversation.

Whether simulcast is also an issue, I have no idea. But you're not going to be able to successfully monitor & trunk track any site that uses 700MHz. If you can find a site that works (one that you can receive, carries the talkgroups of interest to you, and that also only uses 800MHz frequencies), then you may be able to stretch the Pro-96 out for a bit longer. Otherwise, it's time for an upgrade.

Try checking the control channel info, to see which towers have those TG affiliated.

Try using these 3 freqs on the Wayne County Simulcast site. 853.300 (a) 853.825 (c) 860.9125 (a). The Pro96 is very old in terms of 800mhz scanners. The newer models handle simulcast systems better but there are still difficulties trying to monitor them.

Again, thanks everybody who commented. Your imput is very helpful. Bottom line is I need a upgrade.
My next mission will be to do some home work and figure out which scanner suits my needs. My area,
Livonia/Detroit has a lot of simulcast going on.
Thank you, everybody.

I have a PRO96 and have the Wayne County Simulcast frequencies programmed in and have no problem receiving Livonia. What talk groups do you have programmed in.

Darrell, I live on the southwestern part of Livonia and find it easier to listen to LFD, and surrounding cities on the Northville Tower. Now if I head toward Redford I will lock my scanner on the Wayne Co Sim. I do this due to the signal strength ia stronger from the Northville Tower then the Wayne Co Sim Towers.
