Group: Help me Remember.

Several years ago a Fellow Group Member here in the Upstate use to produce and sell a CD with a lot of various radio frequencies list.

In addition, his information listed the various county talk groups associated with the different upstate towers. Example: Which Spartanburg County Talkgroups could be picked up on the Greenville County Simulcast.

Anyway, I would like to get an Updated Copy of the CD if it's still being produced.

So, If the group member reads this or if anyone remembers who use to make those, Let me know.

Thanks.
TS

Hate to hear that. He did an awesome job and was very knowledgeable about the scanning world.

Upstate Scanning Directory produced by Larry Williams of Greenville, SC. He had been producing a paper version since the 1980s and would sell them through privately owned RadioShack stores and other electronic stores. He later began releasing it on CD when paper publishing became cost prohibitive. He and I shared a lot of data back and forth and he was a great contributor to the hobby in this area. Larry also freelanced by selling scanners and antennas to local media organizations, and updating the programming in them. He did indeed pass away about 5 years ago. He is missed by hobbyists in the Upstate.

Why buy a CD when you can download the data here?
It was an awesome guide that was very specific to the upstate of South Carolina and had channels listed that were not published here on Radio Reference. He was a great asset to the hobby.

I also have the files from the last issue if you need them. But obviously, they're dated. Not much info in there that isn't on RR by now. All of the listed Palmetto 800 talkgroups are invalid since the system has transitioned to P25 since it was last publised. Also I don't think there is much if any DMR information in it.

I have to agree with several of the Posters here. It was a awesome Guide very specific to the Upstate area.

I have a complete 2012 Edition that is apx 65-70 pages if printed. For me it was always finding those small "Tidbits" of information you never though about: Example Below found on one of the Upstate Aviation Pages.

Thanks for all the responses,
TS

I know i had not seen where Larry had posted in a long time but I did not realize he had passed. I remember he was always very active on the forum.

Also, prior to rr.com, i use to love buying and studying the new issues of Police Call and Beyond Police when they use to come out.

I would often talk to Larry about the Irish Travelers in my area. He had a section in his book with their frequencies. He was always very helpful.

Larry was the Man! He even delivered a couple of ChannelMaster Mon 5094's to me once. I talked to his relatives when he was hospitalized near the end. They told me he wasn't supposed to have a scanner in his room, but they had brought him one. I called him up several days after that, and since I had heard some jokers doing some shoddy surveillance on a "red dot" frequency we had a laugh about that. Larry also made antennas, programmed up scanners for local news media, and of course published his book of listings. He was a great guy!
