Just curious if anyone else has noticed some pretty frequent data transfers on 155.7300 Sheriff's Net. I was always interested to know what kind of info they would send over that type of frequency(refering to the fact that sheriffs net is monitored by all dispatch centers) and who would be the reciepients of such transfers? Almost all public safety radios have that programmed in them regardless of whether you are state, county, or local police and in emergencies i believe any of the above can communicate on it(or if you are state and running a speed trap). Any ideas or thoughts?

94MP was in pursuit of a motorcycle today while running speed traps! The 2nd one he clocked. They didn't use 155.7300. Doesn't Clay county use this freq as their dispatch channel or something? Luckily, I can program PL tones and don't have to worry about sheriff net stuff coming in. I just don't like that channel. Mutual Aid is just fine for me.

MJ, I've experienced the same things that you talk about, and I also found it odd. In terms of where it is coming from, I haven't the faintest clue.

Scanrrman, can you elaborate for me on the PL tones? I guess i just don't understand what you said. You program pl tones on sheriffs net? Not all of my scanners are pl capable, but if there is something i'm not doing that i could be i'm definetely all ears!

I also prefer to monitor point on 155.37 however sheriffs net is rather useful in more rural counties, and is also a common frequency of choice for the state patrol when they are running speedtraps on the interstate. It is also available to other officers who need to contact a municipality directly in the event of an emergency or in times where for instance a state trooper is in a bad spot and can't communicate with his dispatcher but needs a cover car for a traffic stop. Just using sheriffs net and communicating directly with the law enforcement in that particular area can save quite a bit of time in getting a 2nd unit in route.

mj, this isn't going to help solve your Sheriff's Net problem any, but I have some more information regarding the data trails. I recently purchased my first PL tone compatible scanner, and have discovered w/ >95% certainty that the data trails originate from St. Louis County Police. The STLCO Police consider 155.730 their Riot B channel and I've noticed they do those data trails at various times on all of their riot channels. The PL tone of these data trails is 67.0.

Many dispatch center either do not have the capabilty to monitor sheriffs net, or they
have the capabilty and the volume is turned down so they are not bothered by the
crap that is on the channel.

Also, many mobiles are in the same state - 155.73 gets locked out of scan, or they do not have high band capable radios in their vehicles.

In addition to the garbage instate - there are so many different types of agencies on that frequncy out of state, that the channel has become largely unusable.
