Please stop making changes to the database if the ONLY thing you are changing is the alpha tag, it's very annoying.

Without even knowing what you are referring to I will say this. Changes will be made to the DB when they need to be made. Sorry it "annoys" you, but that's not going to stop us from making changes to the DB. Frankly, I am not sure why a change to the DB to correct an incorrect entry would annoy anyone

Care to share which entry you are referring to?

It's not annoying to me at all. I agree with Scannerfreak, if it is an incorrect alpha tag, I want it corrected.

there is no such thing as an incorrect alpha tag, an alpha tag is what each individual wants it to be, that's my point, if you are changing an incorrect frequency, or PL tone, fine, change the alpha tag as well if it pleases you. I've done that myself, but if the only change you are making is JUST THE ALPHA TAG, it gets annoying. you have to pull out your old paperwork or go through the frequencies on your scanner only to find out nothing changed.
OK, I admit, in the grander scheme of things, this isn't that big of a deal, but after working 60 hours a week, every little inconvenience becomes a pain, sorry, I'll take a nap, lol.

Changes

Oh sure I get tired of the changes that don't really make a bit of difference to the end user, BUT, I understand that the DB has to be updated. I would rather see minor little annoyance updates to a DB rather than a DB that is ignored for several years and get outdated.

Changes like:
Changed Site # 040 (Yankeetown (Warrick)) to 040 (Newburgh (Warrick))scannerfreak2010-08-26 21:22:07Changed Site # 039 (Boonville (Warrick)) to 039 (Boonville (Warrick))scannerfreak2010-08-26 21:20:49Changed Site # 039 (Boonville (Warrick)) to 039 (Boonville (Warrick))scannerfreak2010-08-26 21:19:36Changed Site # 039 (Boonville (Warrick)) to 039 (Boonville (Warrick))scannerfreak2010-08-26 21:17:29

make no sense to the end user as the info stays basically the same. But keep up the good work Scannerfreak.

This is not quite true. There could be several valid reasons why an alpha tag needs changed. I really wish you would point out what exactly you are referring to, as I do not remember making any changes to only an alpha tag, nor do I remember seeing it from another admin. If you could point out what you saw I can likely better explain what happened.

BTW..I also put in 60+ hours / 7 days a week quite frequently as well, and then come here and process all the submissions and moderate the forums in my free time, so try to keep that in mind :)

I absolutely agree the history is not the best in being descriptive about the change. Here is a thread on this very issue that has some great insight from one of the other admins:

Also, thanks for the encouraging words:)

Hey....I think you guys are doing an outstanding job with the site!! Very helpful and informative! If I see that something was changed and its not anything that directly affects me, I simply disregard it...no sense in making an issue out of a non-issue. Thanks again RR, all my scanners are programmed based off your site, and I always recommend anyone who is looking for scanner info to check this site!!

Also keep in mind many changes may not be noticed as they are updates to things such as location data used by newer scanners. Those changes you won't see unless you look for it, but it makes it seem as though there were changes. Also some tags may need changed for the newer scanners that use those tags, without the proper tag the channels either won't be scanned or scanned under an incorrect tag. Expect more and more of these changes in the next few months.
One example is a frequency for a school tagged as RailRoad when it should School. If your scanning Schools it won't show up in certain scanners, but it will if your trying to scan railroads.... oopppssss.
