Database Submission Guidelines

People, before submitting any information to be included in the database, please read the submission guidelines available at:

Please keep these guidelines in mind when submitting information especially when it comes to business submissions.

I plan on going through the database and weeding out any information that doesn't comply.

OK, just wondering though what are the biggest problem(s) are for
submissions. If you're not specific, people may or may not realize it
except by comparing what was there before with the updated records
(could be hard in some cases).

For trunked systems I would guess unidentified talkgroups. Have to laugh,
a couple of TG's in one system were "ID'ed" as "Spanish". What constitutes a
properly ID'ed TG was discussed at length, and it's less than I expect to
submit; generic IDs such as "towing company" are accepted. I avoid these,
but suggest the proper names (if available) be capitalized, whereas generic
ones would be small letters (taking the ambiguity of "waste management" and
"Waste Management" (Inc). )

(Methinks...maybe "Spanish" could be a proper name, the Spanish Peanut-
Onion-Fly Co. )

Most of my submissions are not from spreadsheet because I often just copy
it from my "black book", or if in a spreadsheet it's not the same format so
not worth copying that way. Tables copied seem to get messed up, probably
due to variable-width fonts...don't know how much alignment matters.

Lastly, in your opinion, if I supplied you the name of a user on a trunked
system but not the TG ID, would that be "identified"? I've seen cases of
that.

The biggest problem is people not following the guidelines as to what sort of data we're looking for. An example of this is amateur radio repeaters. Since the data is already available in many other places, we don't want it unless it is part of an emergency network such as ARES or Canwarn. If you do submit such an entry, please make sure the emergency network it belongs to is clearly noted.

Users without tg id's is kind of a grey area. On an ltr system, it would be possible to listen to the user with just the home repeater specified if the system wasn't that busy. On a Motorola or Ericsson system, it would be less useful since the user would be jumping around all the time.
