I saw that chart. Do I just enter the green highlighted # for trunking"? Does this cover all the normal police dispatch frequences?.
Thanks

Hi bikerdan and welcome. First off, you will need to understand what trunking means and a little about how it works. The freqs in green are what are known as 'conventional' and are sometimes tied to the trunk system. Ignore the freqs in grey.

Take a look at the Trunking article linked here - study the basics first, then move on...

PG county is sort of the odd man out. You can program the freqs in green here, and listen to most of the action. The trunk systems linked on this page are used for special units, and I won't go into details here - you can see for yourself by clicking on them...

Now for Montgomery and Howard county, you will need a digital trunking scanner to listen to the police on their trunk systems - they are mentioned here (if something is in blue, click on it and you'll be taken to that article) - check out the answer to hearing nothing but noise

Montgomery county system:

Howard county system:

Take your time, as this can be confusing to a newcomer. Once you get the right equipment, there's lots of folks that can help on this forum. 73s Mike

Thanks for all the help.
I am now using my scanner with groups and quick keys.
Everyone was helpful -I really liked the easy user manual.
I even programmed it with my computer.
Still having a little trouble turning a quick key on and off.

Bikerdan,

I presume you are talking about a 396 or 996. Via your software, ensure that you have actually assigned "quick keys" to the given systems that you are having trouble selecting on the radio....also make sure the systems are not "locked out" and that the system quick keys are not "disabled." This is all accomplished through the software. Most likely, one of these issues is at play.
