Discontinues P-25 ??
One less vendor on the USFS list. It is unfortunate to see this happen since Datron builds solid equipment and much like Thales and Harris most of their public safety products are adapted from DoD platforms.
Bear with me as I attempt to get this concept across to you:
USFS handles their own radio selection and management, it gets taken away from them and handed to National Interagency Incident Communications Division (NIICD), NIICD tells fire fighters, who have rejected P-25, that they must now use only P-25 radios, and even must have them in aircraft..
In the past, Moto enters into a technology exchange agreement with E F Johnson: Moto gets LTR rights, EFJ gets P-25 rights...
Moto purchased Vertex Standard from Yaesu.. Vertex is now Moto..
Kenwood purchases the remainder of EFJohnson (remember it has P-25 rights!)
Datron has problems with Etherstack, the P-25 emulator and drops P-25 production.
Where does Etherstack fit into this equation?? It makes software which emulates the P-25 vocoder. Last I was aware, Harris uses it instead of the DVI chip...
Now, follow the money trail...... And it is not the" support for our hazardous environment safety workers" trail....
there probably is more, but this should dodo for now!!
Cheers..... Have you heard the new P-25 Ph 2 audio yet??????
