Hi. Does any one have any idea when PD1&2 (460.075 / 460.025) are going to stop transmiting on analog.

I guess what i'm asking is when will i have to suck it up and shell out $500 for the digital scanner. In particular, i am keen on monitoring pd dispach 1.

thanks fellow scanners!

Switchover to the new system is planned for Jan 2010. I think 1 dept a week.

Is it at all able to be monitored with a corresponding motorola pager programmed for those frequencies?

If your asking if you can still use a Motorola Minitor brand pager on the new paging system, then the answer is no. This is not a voice paging system, it is Text.

You will need a POCSAG Alphanumeric TEXT Pager for this system. You would then need to know the capcodes for the dept. you want to get the Text Alerts for.

It is the same type of pager setup that Lebanon and York use.

Ok. That's what I wanted to know. I knew it would have to be done with an appropriate pager, just didn't know how it would be programmed and such.

A good pager to buy would be the:

Apollo Pilot XP aprox $186.00 includes pager, Charging Base w/ Alert bell and Rechargeable battery.

Thats what I use for Lebanon County and it works well. Holds up to 8 Capcodes.

Alpha Pagers....

Word is that DC is only letting SERVICES buy pagers from the county. So far as I know they haven't and are not planning to release any of the programming info so you could setup your own pager. Not sure how they could stop you if you found out the info on your own. I can see how they can block portables and other radios if they aren't registered on the network but I didn't think the alpha pagers worked that way. Don't know if this will change in the future. Hope so.

Well, we're in January 2010, was wondering if anyone had any updates on when Dauphin is switching over? I heard they're still on MED 9 chatting away so I wasn't sure if they were doing police first, then fire then EMS or what the plan was. Anyone have any contacts from Dauphin EMA or anyone on here work there?

they're still on as of tonight, and I thought PD was to start switching over today/this week. I'll check around and see what I can find out, but might be a couple of days.

Not that it's a lock by any stretch, but several folks "in the trenches" are being told system goes live for PD the week of the 18th...

This is the gist of what we were told at a radio system update meeting yesterday.

System switchover to begin next week in Lower County with a PD testing it first. The rest of lower Dauphin County will begin switching over in February. Upper Dauphin County will switch last around the beginning of March. Upper County is not fully configured yet since some frequencies that are to be used here are still in use lower county until the switchover. The timetable is contingent on no problems delaying switchover. The paging system is to switch over to the new system also in the beginning of March as the primary dispatch method. It is active now and has been for several months but we have been advised to not yet rely on it as primary notification. The old system will remain operational (simulcast) through this process, and is expected to be shut off in June 2010.

Lower County EMS is switching over in mid February. Upper County EMS does not switch until early March.

The cap codes are a well guarded secret that they will not give out to anyone. I got a guy in my outfit that bought his own pager and wanted to get it programmed with our cap codes, and they would not release that information.

How about a fleet map?

Activity today:

26-units on 11201...testing?

Several units running info through the scope on another TG (missed it)

Also testing on 51018 and other chatter here and there on 21002 and 51001.

Is today go live for some PD units?

Derry Township PD was to go live today, I believe the switchover was supposed to have been around 7:30 this morning. The orange emergency buttons County wide also went live, so those units still testing were warned that if they hit them by accident the county-wide procedure for handling those activations was now in effect.

Company 22 units (my outfit) did some testing Monday and Tuesday nights on our portables and mobiles on our assigned Boro channel. I am clueless when it comes to talk groups and channel assignments and fleet maps. I am still in the "analog" world I guess. I just have not been able to grasp the concepts associated with the monitoring of the new system. Since I have one of the new fire portables assigned to me, I will be using that for now. At some point, I will spring for a new digital scanner.

Alright, Hosehead, your assignment is to go across the river to Capt22's station. Take your PRO-106 with you and map the fire talkgroups in his radio. Then, submit the info here so I can update the database. ;-)

Capt22, is your portable just fire or is it fire and ems?

I'll be out in Harrisburg for meetings on both Wednesday and Thursday. I'll bring along my PRO-106 to see what I can hear.

My portable is fire only. There are other zones and talk groups programmed into it that link to other services.

Besides crossing the river, Hosehead will have to get his passport stamped when he crosses over the mountain to the upper end of the County, known around here as "da walley". But then, his roots are in the coal region, so he has an anytime pass to come up here and enjoy some vitamin "Y".

Hey, my dad's family is from Pottsville, do I get a pass?
