I'm off of Nyes road. I have great signals on multiple sites. I think that is the problem. It just can't decode it with all the signals possibly doing multipath.
Are you nearer Route 322 or 22?

Quick question. For dauphin county. are the police private channels, like example Derry Twp, are they encrypted too?
Yes, and no. Basically, this system is almost the same as the old one. On the conventional channel 1 (460.075) they had LP, Swatara, Susquehanna, etc. Those same departments are on the first talkgroup, 11001. The old channel 2 is 11002, and so on. Derry twp had their own private system before and now they have a separate talkgroup on the system, 11201. The same goes for the city.
Now for the encryption. The only encrypted talkgroups are the operations talkgroups on the police (this includes the old channel 3-AOPC). I believe Harrisburg's operations and AOPC checks are encrypted also, but I don't listen that often. All the fire is open as far as I heard but not all EMS is. The dispatch (old med9?) talkgroup is open but the operations aren't. I don't think that would even be interesting to listen to even if it was open. I don't even think they had those on the old system either. Listen around if you have a scanner and you'll pick it up really fast.
Hope this helps.
If you look at Dauphin County's Database, under the mode column, you will see either the letter D or the letter E. D stands for Digital and E is encrypted. You won't be able to understand the E talkgroups. All of the D talkgroups will be fine to listen to. 11001 contains the users that were on 460.075 and 11002 contains the users that were on 460.025. Derry Twp is not encrypted and is 11201. Remember Derry twp, Middletown, and the City have their own dispatchers and a talkgroup different than the others, but they are all listed in the database. That might be what was confusing you, I think.
I thought I would be fine by just programming the simulcast towers into my 106, but I'm not. I'm missing a bunch of traffic.
Do all of these towers repeat what a single tower is hearing? I guess what I'm really trying to get at is how I should program my 106. I just put in all the cc's for all of the towers in the county. I don't know how I should put the settings like ROAM or STAT yet. I've tried both but none of them are working the way I want them to. Should I just put different sites in different banks? I have absolutely no idea.
I use my PSR-600 as a mobile and a base, and I have all frequencies from all sites entered in with the TG that I want. Mine is set up for ROAM. When I loaded the whole system into the device, it created more than one entry for Dauphin in the Trunking list (on PSRedit500), as there is a limit on the number of frequencies you can load/enter into the device.
I take my scanner from work in LoPax, back to the West Shore, and all points in between, and I can almost always pick up a site. If you limit to one site, you will certainly miss things as you get a lower signal from that tower.
Well to tell you the truth, I don't care about the police communications as much as I do the fire. I can hear the individual towers great from my house (any tower other than ones in the simulcast system). Do all fire communications get retransmitted on those individual towers such as Ellendale, Sun Pipeline, etc.? I think they certainly should be because the chief might be out of the range of the simulcast system.
I rarely listen to PD.
I have all frequencies for all sites for Dauphin programmed in. I have the banks broken out for fire talkgroups, PD TG and EMS TG. If I want to listen to fire, I activate that TG for the system. Same for PD or EMS.
The sites should be carrying all transmissions. A site is not limited to PD or EMS, etc. Trust me...it works...try it.
Program the frequencies for all sites. Pick the TG you want to monitor.
Set it to ROAM.
Done.
So remove the simulcast system. I am not sure how you can have a wildcard for just one site...the talkgroups selected are for the whole system.
Which FD talkgroups are you selecting?
Perhaps the choppy and garbled transmissions are the encrypted TGs which will hit when using the wildcard???
What signal % are you getting on the simulcast? I am about 2 miles away and am getting 85-95%
On the Derry Twp site, I am pegged at 99%.
(To check signal: hit manual. Use the arrows to go to the bank where you have the Dauphin system, press the F2 button under TSYS on the display, then press the F3 button under analyze. on the first frequency, what is the signal percentage from the bottom line?)
