Hello all, I am from GA but I have a friend of mine in davidson county who wants to listen to mainly fire/EMS and hospital frequencies and I plan to send them a pro 2021 analog only scanner as a birthday present. As I do not live in the area and my friend is radio illiterate I plan to program it for her and send it. How is the analog frequency communications there? Most active frequencies from davidson and surrounding counties? The radio will be on a desk by a window and it will just use a telescopic antenna so I don't expect much range. Any other active agencies like state or area wide not using VIPER? I highly doubt she will get the radio bug but who knows, maybe one day she will get a digital scanner. P25 is a domimate force now but I think I could fill up at least a few banks of interesting things to listen to, thank you for reading and thank you for helping out as this might seem like a weird request.

ALL in ALL Analog is going away.

Public Safety Analog is being abandoned for 800 MHz , (VIPER and GuilFord County).

NCSHP does traffic enforcement outside of the municipalities.
They are exclusively VIPER.
Their VIPER TGs are part of E Troop.

Davidson County LEO is 100% 800 MHz, mostly VIPER.
Davidson County VIPER TGs are the 15xxx series.
Davidson County is in the VIPER Central Zone.

Davidson County EMS and Fire are simulcasting their Viper traffic on the old VHF Hi band frequencies.
Fire 154.16 (88.5) EMS 155.235 (88.5).
I don't know how long before they switch over to VIPER only.

Davidson County EMS services everywhere in Davidson County.
There is a separate Davidson County Rescue Squad.
It uses Davidson County FD and EMS channels.

Lexington Police and Fire are exclusively TGs on VIPER.
EMS is provided by the Davidson County EMS.

Denton PD is on VIPER Exclusively.
Their FD is on the County System.
EMS is provided by the Davidson County EMS.

Thomasville is partly in Guilford County.
ALL Thomasville Public Safety is on the High Point/Guilford County System.
They have roaming interoperability into VIPER, but almost all their activity is on the HP system.

Thomasville EMS is provided mostly by the Davidson County EMS.
Some small part of Thomasville is in Guilford County, and is serviced by their EMS.

The other small municipalities contract with The Davidson County Sheriff for police protection.

Griifith FD (far northern Davidson County) is mostly in Forsyth County, and is dispatched by them.

Some smaller FDs retained their VHF Hi-band HTs, and use them for day to day maintenance jobs, but NOT as first line equipment.

The NS RR still uses analog AAR band plan frequencies.
160.515 north of Spencer Yard,
160.245 South of Spencer Yard,
and 160.950 as a Road channel
Spencer Yard tower is on 161.490
CSQ on all these channels..

Energy United (the electric company) has an 800 Mhz Wide Area trunking system.

Even the PPG factory (the largest factory in Davidson County) is digital.

ALL in ALL Analog is going away.

Same way down here near savannah. A few agencies simulcast to the SEGARRN system but most is totally digital. I'm not really surprised at your response but I wanted to get an idea of what is active there. I don't have the money to send a digital scanner her way and then she not really use it. I got that 2021 for very cheap and I don't mind sending it to a friend.

How many channels does the 2021 have?
Does it do CTCSS(PL)?

What area of Davidson County is she in?

I can send you a short list.
