I was looking at my 396T and noticed that it was 6 volt. So I started to rummage through my pile of dc cigar adapters and found a 6 volt one that was orignally for a xm radio tuner. My question is this: They are the same polarity and the same size. The xm radio plug fits into the scanner. BUT, the radio says it requires 800ma (.8 amps) The adapter for my XM is 1000ma (1.0amp) Will this small .2 amp difference hurt my bcd396t? If anybody knows, please let me know. Thanks!

When it comes to amps, Too much is ok, not enough is not.

Think of it like a woman, you have $1000, but she only takes $800

That being said, would you really want to save a few bucks on a $500 scanner?

The scanner will only draw what current it needs.

Or to put it another way - The adapter does not PUSH the current, the scanner PULLs the current.
