Could I use a hardware assembly from a Pro-2055 on the Pro-97 to power the unit in my truck?

Or a hardwire assembly from a BCT15?

Thanks for any information,

Matt

Probably not, Matt. The 97 works on 9V, 300mA...the mobiles you mentioned work on 12V, 500mA I believe. The 97 also takes a different size barrel plug.
You will need to get a 9V adapter from the Rat Shack.

Alright.

Thanks for the information!!! Good thing I didn't just plug it up (with the right adapter) I may have burned it up. lol

So is there a way to hardwire the Pro-97 into the vehicles electrical system? I would like the scanner to power on when I start up. I would rather not take up my 1 DC Cigarette lighter plug.

Thanks,

Matt

I bought a multi outllet for the lighter and a 9v adapter from RS. I take the batteries out of the Pro 97 when connected as above. The batteries get really hot. Almost forgot, you'll need the power plug to fit between the radio and the 9v line.

Add another DC outlet under your dash and plug the 12v to 9v adapter into it. Make sure you wire the DC outlet to a fuse that is only active when the ignition is on. You should really get an adapter that has a switch on the 12v plug. You don't want to send a surge into the scanner everytime you start the car. If you get the switch on the plug, it won't matter where you get the power for the new socket.

I will admit to not following my own advice. My adapter stays plugged into the socket most of the time and no damage yet...yet.

Soooo, does Radio Shack sell the DC Plug (cigarette) and adapter plug for the Pro-97? If so what are the cat #'s?

Thanks,

Matt

That adapter (DC to DC cigarette plug Catalog #: 273-1863) says 1000mA. I thought that was too much juice for the scanner? I thought it only needed 300mA

It does only need 300ma. It won't use more than it needs. The adapter can't force the extra amperage into the scanner.
Over voltage however, is a completely different and potentially damaging problem.
