This may be dated, but did DCFD every build out the other towers that they needed or are they still working off the original 3? towers?

I may not have the answer. But I don't think they added any towers, instead every Engine & Batt Chief vehicle was oufitted with a mobile repeater. Maybe someone else can expand on this. That was supposed to help reception inside buildings. DC also adds on a 5th Engine to Box alarms as a "communications company". Like I say, maybe someone else can give some more insight.

The DCFD added two more towers to a grand total of 5. They ARE:
Capitol View Retirement Senior Center
Saint Elizabeth's Hospital
Georgetown University Medical Center
Fire Communications Hdq.
4th Dist police station

Along with these additional sites and the mobile repeter system DCFD now has optimum coverage.

Ok, thanks. I remeber when I last traveled thru the area that the 800 system sounded really good on I95 for quite a distance. They must have done something right!

DCFD Has 10 Towers

Actually, the ten repeater locations displayed in the RR database for MPD are also DCFD locations. Congress allocated over 31 million after 9-11 to address the inadequacies in with the public radio system for DC. In fact, these monies were used to construct six additional repeaters for the DCFD system, trunk MPD's analog system, equip DCFD units with automatic vehicle location hardware and associated interfaces with the CAD, equip engine, truck, and BFC apparatus with mobile repeaters, and upgrade the Metrorail tunnel system so the system works underground. Finally, DCFD added the fifth-due engine on Box Alarms origionally as the communications company; however, since our system is basically almost 100% better, the fifth-due engine is now simply used as the IC see fit, not specifically for communications purposes.

The FD shares the following locations with MPD:

6001 Georgia Avenue, NW
4650 Benning Road, SE
441 4th Street, NW
2000 14th Street, NW
2700 Martin Luther King Avenue, SE
1700 Rhode Island Avenue, NE
3800 Reservoir Road, NW (Georgetown University Hospital)
5255 Loughboro Road, NW (Sibley Memorial Hospital)
4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW (University of the District of Columbia, Building 41)
2150 Pennsylvania Ave, NW (George Washington University Hospital)
