Hello All.
I am working on programing my BCT15, a fully capable, non digital scanner. When I see "DCS" and or "DPL" for the "Tone" in the program charts for frequencies here, will my scanner pick them up or are they strictly for digital scanners? I am still trying to figure this all out... But I am getting better, thanks to all of your help here... Thank you!

Sincerely,
Rich

DCS and DPL are the same thing, and they apply to analog frequencies

CTCSS and PL are the same thing, and they apply to analog frequencies

NAC is related to P25 digital

RAN is related to NXDN digital

CC is related to DMR digital

Just so you know, "PL" means "Private Line".

If memory serves me right, "Private Line" was a trademarked phrase created by Motorola for coded squelch.

CTCSS means "Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System" and DCS means "Digital Coded Squelch". Motorola basically wanted to call it something else than the industry standard description. So Motorola called it "PL" and "DPL" instead.

There was also another term called "Channel Guard" (CG) by another company back in the day. Other companies have called it Quite Talk (QT), Quiet Channel and Quiet Call.

QT = Quiet Tone. There were others, too - including Call Guard (also CG). But, it's all CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) which is the EIA/generic term for PL, CG, QT, Etc.

CDCSS is Continuous Digital Coded Squelch System which is the EIA/generic term for DPL, DCG, DQT, etc. All the manufacturers simply put the D in front of their trademarked terms. It is often abbreviated DCS (like you need an abbreviation for an abbreviation).
