DOUGLAS COUNTY - Two men are in custody after an early morning altercation at a Douglas County campground led to one man's and left another with serious injuries.
Police received a call around 4:20 a.m. Saturday about some sort of disturbance between people at two campsites at the Rainbow Creek Falls Campground north of Woodland Park on Highway 67.
Officials responding to the seen found one man dead, another seriously injured and a third with minor injuries.
The man with serious injuries was airlifted to Penrose Medical Center and the other injured man was transported by ambulance. The man airlifted is still alive, but his prognosis is unknown.
Officials have not said what caused the men's injuries.
Law enforcement officials from Woodland Park, Teller County, Jefferson County, Douglas County and Colorado Springs were searching for two suspects.
Teller County Sheriff's Deputies took one suspect into custody shortly after 9 a.m. That man was found in a field about one mile south of the campground.
The second suspect was found on a private ranch two miles south of the crime scene hiding among some horses, officials said. The ranch owner saw his horses acting peculiar and called the authorities.
Early Saturday morning law enforcement officials used reverse 911 to notify people in the area to stay in their homes. Once the suspects were in custody they used it again to notify residents it was safe to leave their homes.
Police do not know if the people at the two campsites knew each other.
The campground was closed and all access roads blocked off during the search, but that perimeter has been taken down.
