I upgraded the firmware in my 536 this morning. After a few minutes the screen blanked and now it will not power up. The display is blank.

I would try the following things, if you haven't already.

Unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds then plug it in and try to turn it on.

If it turns on and operate normally, I'd use Sentinel and clear all user data, then write everything to the card again.

If it turns on, but doesn't start normally or gives an error message, I'd try to do the clear all user data/rewirte procedure.

If that doesn't work or the scanner won't power up at all, it would be wise to remove the SD card and put it into a card reader and do the above.

It seems that whenever there is some sort of funky power on problem, the SD card is the culprit.

Which is why I have a few spares hanging around the house.

Try turning it on w/o any SD card installed. It should display an error. If it does, then the SD card needs to be replaced.

Your radio could fail even without doing the upgrade..... life is full of risks.

It went well for me... pretty simple. I've upgraded and downgraded several times without a problem (with exception of that initial wifi/dongle firmware release).

If a problem occurs, the most likely thing that can happen is some sort of SD card failure. You can (should) prepare for and guard against that by being carefully/properly releasing the SD card/radio when removing the SD card or cable after the upgrade... and by having a backup/secondary SD card handy.

Couldn't get the SD card to format at all. So went out and bought a new one, put it in, and now all is ok. Thanks for all the comments.

Do you have to remove SDcard when updating or dose it work like the HP1?

Leave card in scanner, connect USB programming cable and use Sentinel to update the firmware.

Firmware is downloaded to SD card, then you are prompted to disconnect the USB cable, firmware will automatically load.

If there are no problems, it is very quick and simple.
