I second this.

The official feeds I help run are hosted at the county 911 center, and they have an extremely low noise floor. A few of the feeds are talkgroups from the P25 system, so there is essentially no background noise.

When I listen to the archives, I notice that quite a bit of soft spoken transmissions are getting truncated. Very often if you listen, pieces of conversations run right into each other, likely due to a somewhat high threshold.

I guess the downside to lowering the threshold is that crappy, noisy feeds may wind up being ineffective at trimming any silence from the archive, but I'll take that over missed transmissions any day. Effectively it wouldn't be much different than a normal feed archive anyway. Might even encourage those hosting noisy feeds to do something about cleaning them up. ;)
