I've been reading posts where certain scanners are "deaf" to some frequencies and others are not and it makes me wonder what scanner is almost deaf-proof for frequencies one wants to hear be it digital or trunked(By the way,my wife is deaf to all my scanners-she's deaf :p). Is there a actual scanner one could buy I be really pleased with?

BC796D on 800 MHz. I have two of them and they both perform poorly unless hooked up to a quality base station antanna. I've been through many many many quality mobile antannae, no matter what I install they perform poorly on 800 MHz.

I think most of the scanners available today perform very well. Any deafness issues are usually related to the particular installation and/or the surrounding environment.

There are two prime variables at work here, the receiver and the antenna. The frequency response curves of both look like a roller coaster track so regardless of what you use it's a hit or miss proposition. There is no way anyone here can give specific information without lab testing so don't be fooled by what you read, what's good for the goose is not always good for the gander. That's why I always say "no one size fits all" or in other words what works for one may be someone else's disaster.

You guys sure ask some interesting questions, the answers often are more so. (;->)

DING DING DING we have a WINNER.
People are so QUICK to trash talk a scanner for being deaf when 99% of the time its the environment and a poor installation.
