A head-on collision Friday on Garfield County Road 204 resulted in two children being ejected from a Ford Bronco while their driver sustained serious internal injuries.
One of the children was uninjured, while the other sustained moderate abdominal injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Both children and the driver, Anthony Verzani, 29, of De Beque, were not wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. Friday when the southbound Bronco collided head-on with a northbound pickup that was in the wrong lane trying to avoid hitting rocks on the road, the State Patrol said. Both vehicles were attempting to round a curve in the road.
The Bronco rolled off the west side of the road down an embankment, ejecting the children from the vehicle.
The driver of the pickup , Karl Jack, 18, of De Beque, was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor leg injuries. The front-seat passenger in the Bronco, who also was wearing her seat belt, sustained a scratch on her face, the State Patrol said.
