I have a BCD396T scanner. I have the LTRDUMP and LTRTRUNK programs loaded to my computer. What do I need to do to get it working to Decode MultiNet systems.

I think you have to have the scanner hooked up to the computer. I haven't messed with it for awhile too far away to test it.

Ok Bravo14 thanks alot dude. No big hurry to do it. By chance once you have everything set up and whatever is there a way that the IDs can be stored and then it can still be trunked without a computer. Or do I have to use the computer all the time for a system like this.

First off, take a look at the Trunker documentation in the downloads sections:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=19

It gives a general overivew of Trunker, which is about 90% the same as the LTrunk program.

Next up - have you modified your scanner with a discriminator tap?
You will need this in order to feed the datastream into the PC.
Look around the message boards and you'll see topics related to this.
I'm currently using a BC780XLT which allows a little easier access than a BC396T.

As for trunking without a computer - that would be sweet.
Maybe some type of small project box with a PIC controller and some small cabling.
Anyone up for the challenge???

I've used the LTRUNK program on Multi-Net Systems in Anderson, Indiana, and McLean County, Illinois with good results. It also does a very nice job on plain LTR and LTR Passport.

How do I go about getting a discriminator thing. Is it something I can download if so where can I download it from. If not I guess I am SOL. Don't have the money to by a discriminator thing.

Discriminator Tap - no download or software here.

You have to physically take the cover off your scanner and do some soldering of wires to a couple of points. If you want it really neat, you'll have to drill some holes to install a socket/plug, etc.

Not for the faint of heart - especially not on a brand new BC396T!!!

Do you have any other trunking scanners? The BC780XLT was an easy discriminator tap modification - you could actually feed it directly out through one of the non-used connections on the DB-9 connector.

Well then I hope that Clay County plans on changing their system soon. Don't think that I would want to do that to a new scanner either. Guess I am SOL. Thanks anyway.

Do all of these posts mean that Clay County can't be monitored?
Try the lady at the radio shack in town. She tells me that she is able to monitor Clay County with no problems. She uses some RS handheld. I can't remember her name but she works weekdays until about 4. In fact I was going to see her about a handheld for just that purpose in the near future. I'd be interested to know what she has to say.

you can listen to it in conventional mode but you cant "trunk track" it

in conventional mode, you have no way of knowing if you are listening to CCSO, CCFR or the garbage man

That is excatley right you can "listen" to Clay county you just can't follow a conversation like you can with a Trunk Tracker. I can throw all the freq's from Clay county's multinet system into my Ham radio and hear stuff.

Following it is a different matter

Well that is basically what I am doing now is listening to it in conventional. I hate that though because if we have to fires going on at one time like two saturdays ago, had to figure out who was talking. i paid attention to the frequencies and for some reason my area of clay county came up on one frequency and the other fire on another and i was on the westside of jacksonville then. our system didnt fail i know that because they never sent the page over my pager like they usually do when they need me to man the local system. and i hear the sheriffs office off and on on the 800. does anyone know if there will ever be a MultiNet capable scanner eventually.

I was hoping the 396 would do multi net but I haven't heard any radio picks them up unless you buy a 2way radio that has that option. I hear St Johns Co is not go 800 anytime soon since we are not big enough and radios would cost more to set up and stuff. If a scanner picks them I hope it doesn't have defaults like from pro96 to bcd396t. I like the 396 better has more systems than the 96.
