Welcome to the RR forums. What's your budget? Are you looking for a standalone solution (a la a scanner) or a software-defined radio which requires a computer and software to run? An RTL SDR can be had for about $40 USD paired with a number of apps (DSD+, SDRTrunk to name a few). See other solutions in wiki linked below

The Baofeng DM-5R does not. The RD-5R, DM-1801 and DM-1701 will. I have a Radioddity GD-77 and a TYT MD-UV380, which also work.

You have to be careful when purchasing a radio, because of hardware chip changes in recent years. Some work and some don't.

They will not trunk track DMR, either.

Definitely look to opengd77.com for guidance.

The RTL-SDR is definitely an economical option, but will require a computer/laptop/Raspberry Pi to work and won't be portable.

Hello rgchristy, Im looking to purchase a DM-1701. So it can decode Mototrbo? And do you need to download anything extra or will it just do it on the Open GD77?

Yes, a Baofeng DM-1701 will work and fits within your budget. Unfortunately, I used to use them at my previous place of employment.

DSD+ with an RTL-SDR dongle will work as well. Although you mentioned you are looking for a portable solution, you can always run it on a laptop or something for portable use.

Oh alright, how do I make it work on DM-1701? Does it require any upgrades or just Opengd77?

Thanks sb60! I don't own one, so I don't know either.

I would join the opengd77 forum and read through that topic, asking questions, as necessary.

Roger & Daniel (and others) are the experts! Follow their lead.
