C64
Had a lot of commodores VIC20, C64, C128 and an AMIGA1200. Bought the RTTY decoder for the C64 for $80 AUS way back. I really should have saved my money! I was doomed from the start and I only remember being able to receive and decode anything on a couple of occations.
The following issues just about killed it for me.
My Commodore CRT produced huge ammounts of RF noise.
The C64 itself ended up in a custom tin box to stop it's own massive array of RF harmonics.
I was in line of site of major short wave regional transmitter who broad cast on a number of frequencies.
The signals were so strong from the transmitters that they got into the mains and I could receive them without an aerial.
So even with the short wave radio on batteries and as far a way from the computer (in a tin box) and with the monitor off the reception was rubish.
Couldn't even play with the aerial, as soon as it was lengthened over a few feet the receiver died of intermod.
I ended up throwing in radio as a hobby.
Today (in a different location) I sit in my room with two PC's, one with a radio in it (WRG303) and receive all modes of transmission. Technology has really improved.
It's a bit sad though that most of the commercial RTTY has disappeared and been replaced with encoded didgital modes. Still there still a few stations and the HAMS to be received.
All good fun
