Does anyone think it will EVER be possible to decrypt SLERS using a PC ? Or any other method or combination of methods ie: a commercial radio interfaced with a PC, etc. ?

Weather it is legal or illegal is not a part of my question at this time.

Thanks,

If encrypted; NO.

If juts ProVoice; sure. (Get to work)

Will be P25 someday (soon), then the same answer applies.

Thanks,

I live in South Walton county and the fire dept. just went from VHF to full time encryption on 800. (AFAIK)

What a bummer !

SLERS was SPECIFICALLY and INTENTIONALY from the start desinged to be UNSCANNABLE.

The fact thats its provoice under the encryption and thus even more unmonitorable is just icing on the cake.

Very highly placed users of the system do not like scanners and this system will never be scannable even if it were to go P25 (its not).

It will be 100% encrypted all groups, period.

Sorry. :(

Yep, it sucks that South Walton went to SLERS. Same goes with Okaloosa EMS. What makes no since is both OC EMS and WC Fire still get full voice and audio tone-outs on the old VHF/UHF system during dispatch. I think this is due to the paging system they use. I know there is still interoperability issues with them moving over to SLERS. Before, EMS and Fire were able to communicate with each other on the old system. Now everything has to be relayed through the communication center and valuable time is lost. A good example happen this weekend when there was a hazmat incident on the Okaloosa/Walton County line. Destin units could not communicate with South Walton units like the old days.

Okaloosa Fire was supposed to be the next agency to move over to SLERS. Not sure if their waiting for the new Okaloosa County 911 Emergency Operations Center to be completed. According to the county, the anticipated completion date will be around July 2010 when they will start relocating the EOC and offices.

They say SLERS is suppose to be interoperability friendly but I hear it everyday where FHP information has to be relayed form one communication center to another. What will happen when other agencies start loosing the ability to communicate with each other? I know here in Santa Rosa, everyone can pretty much communicate with each other and have the ability to switch over to a common frequency like DOF RED, WHITE or BLUE channels.

Thank you Jeb Bush, Florida Legislature , and M/A-COM.

Has anyone confirmed that every single solitary talkgroup on this system is indeed ProVoice DES Encrypted?

Right, that's what I think they're doing it for too.

I just don't see this as any sort of improvement in comms. You would think that those in charge of local PS/EOC comms would raise hell with the state and be able to make very valid concerns known.

I can see where agencies would have a need to switch to encryption in certain situations at certain times but it seems like a colossal waste of money and illogical the way it's being done. I guess that's the bureaucratic way.

BTW: thanks for your other post regarding the fake cop, I'm going to have my wife read it and watch the videos later.

I haven't been able to confirm this or not but all the traffic on the 800 I'm checking is all encrypted so far.
