Toss the ball back in his court, tell him it's a federal crime and what he does next is his decision. If he argues that's his problem and there's no sense arguing back when a simple statement is quite enough to absolve you of any guilt. By putting the blood on him you have washed your hands clean.

I doubt he decrypted anything. He may be using incorrect terminology. For instance, some people new to scanning or that don't quite understand P25 systems, may say that the transmissions are encrypted and that their P25 scanner is decrypting them. They aren't.

So the first thing you do is tell thousands of RR members in an international public forum? You do realize you do not have total anonymity here on RR don't you? Federal authorities can find out where you are, and who you are.

But don't worry too much, they wont believe it either.

Asked and answered in Altec's stickied encryption thread. Can we lock/close this before it gets out of hand and we end up with another 3 page encryption debacle?

He is probably lying but I have heard that with the right hardware it can be done. I am not sure of it can be done through software but it most likely can because it is decrypting a key.

For example people modify satellite software to get television. They are applying a "password" to their satellite to allow it to receive and accept the signal.

Your friend may have meant "decode," instead of "decrypt."

Many scanners decode digital signals (DCS, DPL, P25) or sub-audible tones (CTCSS, PL).

Also, sometimes, unencrypted transmissions come through on what would normally be an encrypted channel.

Or, if he really meant encryption, he's lying, like others wrote.

I stand by my previous post, what I said in so many words is it's not his problem. Whether the other guy is lying or not is a moot point and that's where it should have ended but each and every time you clods insist on talking it to dearth! Now please lock this thread and any more that mention encryption QUICKLY and nip this crap in the bud. Mods, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR JOB, thank you.

I broke a code on a scanner one time, dispatcher said 10-22. I looked it up and found out what it meant. I hope I don't get in trouble.

Not only is this another pointless encryption thread but the OP asked the EXACT SAME QUESTION in a stickied encryption thread which I noted in an earlier post. You'd think the mods could pick up on this stuff when we explicitly spell it out for them.

I would be more worried about getting a job in the future with such bad spelling and grammar.

I think this has been hashed out enough;). See sticky at the top of the forum. Also please use the search function, you will probably find the answers to your questions.
