Just "won" one on ebay for $26 (including postage) from HK. The good news is it works. The design is clever; the center beam of the loop is a telescoping rod, which makes it small enough to fit in the airline "freebie" pouch I use to carry my Sangean G-6 in when I travel. The amp is powered by 2 AAAs, but I haven't used it long enough to estimate total battery life. It comes with a nifty little ferrite rod adapter that works like a charm atop a collapsed metal antenna, but not at all with the Yaesu VX-8R (though I may play with it some more to see if I can find a "sweet spot").
The bad news is it works just as well as the whip on my Sony ICF-7600. Also tried it out on the Sangean G6 I use for travel, and it is better than the whip (but not by much). I'm happy with it for what I paid, and plan on tossing it in the G6 bag for use on the road.
