Is anyone familiar with Dekalb Co Fire units? I'm hearing ambulances referred to as 'rescues' which seem to correlate with the fire stations (rescue 7), but then I'm also hearing 'medic' units dispatched as well. (medic 65). Can anyone explain?

DeKalb Co Fire Medic Units

When you hear, for example, "Rescue 1", that is the DeKalb County Fire transport unit based at station #1 (Emory - Clifton Road). Same goes for the other Rescue units - they correspond to the DCFD station numbers. When you hear "Medic 65", for example, those are private EMS transport units that DCFD uses to augment the Rescue units. These are generally Basic EMT units that DCFD uses for less critical transports and calls. I believe they are all in the 60-series and are usually operated by CARE EMS.

Hope this helps
