There are several individual companies that have acquired their own channels, mostly on VHF but a few on UHF.

The most recent I have noted are Franklin and Sidney on UHF, Hancock has UHF but I have yet to monitor its use. There are many other departments that have gone to VHF for individual operations over several years Delhi, Downsville, Stamford, Grand Gorge, Hobart, Andes, Bovina, Bloomville, Walton, and the Margaretville area (appears to be a district channel, have not personally monitored it).

The new UHF for Sidney and Franklin seem to make sense given the frequent mutual aid with other UHF-capable departments (Oneonta, Otego, and Chenango County).

Neighboring Otsego County is building a multi-site Project 25 simulcast trunking system. This is part of the Catskill Regional Public Safety Consortium Trunking System that is planned for the following New York counties:

  • Delaware

  • Greene

  • Otsego

  • Sullivan

  • Schoharie

  • Ulster
The system will take 3-5 years to complete, but more than likely Otsego County will be the first to go online way before then. Their system has been completely licensed by the FCC, and will operate on the UHF band. All of the other counties are following suit. If more grant money can be secured, the system will be built-out in a more timelier manner.

Smart

At least NY is smart---they are using the national standard---not something like Open Sky. Thats what Pa is using

NY is not that smart. The now defunct NYSWN project was going to be OpenSky.
