Do all the fire departments use them ? Is their VHF frequency of 154.205 wide band or is it narrow band?

All of the fire departments were issues Alpha pagers from the county. The VHF freq is correct, and since it's within the VHF narrowband required range, it is narrowband.

it is indeed narrowband however it is a dispatch frequency for alpha numeric pagers what do you hope to hear? our voice dispatch is 46.480. or 508.2375 we have both a vhf lowband and a uhf dispatch

I hate to be a negative nelly, but do be careful when monitoring pagers - it IS illegal and you can do actual jail time if you make enough of a nuisance of yourself with it. There was a guy I knew years ago who burned a bunch of pagers for everyone from the fire chief to the dog catcher in New York and they locked him up for it after he kept showing up to stuff the media wasn't supposed to know about.
Personally I think whatever you do in the comfort of your home should be your business and that includes monitoring pagers, encrypted comm's, whatever, but the key is not to advertise that you are doing that on a messageboard that is constantly being indexed by Google.
Just some advice from a pal... carry on.
