Is it against the TOS to stream a feed on a delay. I would like to delay my feeds by 10 minutes to protect LE but to still be able to stream the audio. Also if something does go down on the normal dispatch channel that could affect an ongoing situation the feed can be cut until the situation is over. I think this would make it more difficult for someone to use a streaming app on their smartphone to aid in the commission of a crime. This may make some listeners not happy but I think it's a good safety net.

Bollocks. This is how a politician would approach "security". Any decent criminal can get himself a scanner. Why punish all the enthusiasts to outsmart a hypothetical evildoer?

Quoting RR owner Lindsay on the matter from 09-01-2011, 8:09 AM:
Let me also make it clear that we will not allow delayed broadcasts from feed providers either - which means if one of the software makers creates a delayed feed function within their broadcast client - you are not allowed to use it on RR.

This is from a thread here:
Streaming w/ delay for first responder safety

No need to get snippy here as I was just checking the rules. The delay software would have been independent of the Scannercast software. Smartphone apps are much easier to use than a scanner that has to monitor a advanced digital trunked radio system and are allot cheaper.

Glad to hear no delay. My firefighters make use of our feed to hear comms when they are out of our radio coverage area and determine if they need to respond. Having any kind of delay would make that useless.

With so many Police Departments going encrypted in the last few months and most of them contributing smart phone apps (RR feeds) as the reason, I think Lindsay should reconsider and allow delayed police feeds. Fire feeds don't need to be delayed. A delay of 10 minutes would be sufficient I would think. A delayed feed is better than no feed when the department goes encrypted.

I think the point is all someone needs to do is buy a scanner. Should we start banning scanners because there is no delay? No. So why should it be different by adding a delay here?

Trust me, I understand your point about officer safety..but this is technology today. If they don't want people listening, it's up to the departments to make their communications unavailable.

This topic is not new either

$500 scanner vs 99 cent app on your phone. which do you think people will pick?

+1 for delay.

$500 isn't the average price for a scanner so that's not a reasonable comparison.

Anyway, is this horse still alive?

If my choice is delayed feeds vs. more agencies using the RR feeds as an excuse to encrypt communications, I'd vote for delayed feeds.
