I have a question as to whether or not the listed tower sites for the DEMA VHF channels are accurate or not.
139.3500 Towers Mtn
139.4375 Mt Eldon
139.7125 South Mtn and Hualapai Mtn
141.4500 Mt Lemmon

I live in Peoria and I would think that I should not be hearing Mt Eldon (Flagstaff) at all, let alone loud and clear. Towers Mtn varies, sometimes scratchy, sometimes clear. South Mtn is not heard at all. So I have to question the accuracy of the listing

Assuming the tower is registered with the FCC, I find tower sites' locations through ASR Registration Search. There are a number of different search options. Use Google Maps or your mapping program of choice as necessary to tweak your findings. Tower heights are in meters. Use Google Earth to visualize the terrain elevations between your location and the tower(s) in question. HTH.

I don't have a computer, only a 3G phone, and the mobile version of the database doesn't give me any information to fill in those fields. The FCC ULS search page doesn't work on my phone, and I don't know if the ASR site will, either :/

DEMA is the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. Emergency management and the Army and Air National Guard. South Mtn is ~23 miles to my southeast, so I would think that'd be the loud & clear site. Flagstaff is 2+ hours north of me.

I'm just curious, I mean I'll listen to what I'm able to, and the exact location of where it's coming from is secondary. I just thought folks would want accuracy, and that it was curious that I'd be hearing what I am if it is accurate.

I'm sure with the changes in the Federal bands, some Freqs got moved around

Ok, time for you to get out your Morse Code decoder ring. All of the sites were labeled from documents found on the DEMA site and confirmed by listening to the morse code transmitted off the tower. When decoded it gives you a nice and easy shorthand of the tower. If you can't do morse code, there are programs out there that will decode it for you, or you could post a complete copy of the call letters from the frequency you want to ID and I might even be able to verify it for you :)

I can't comment on listed/unlisted frequencies at this distance but I think the tower registration requirement is separate: height. distance to airports, lighting etc. That ASR database can additionally be searched with address, radius around geocoordinates, owner names. Either the FCC or the FAA has to be aware of them. If you can't get to a computer at a neighbor/library/network cafe, try using the online sectional chart VFRMAP - Digital Aeronautical Charts -- albeit I'm not sure how the site will behave on 3G. HTH.

PS. My "main" computer (a laptop) died; I'm using a little Asus eee1018pc <$400 and bumped the memory from 1GB to 2GB ($15). Works great, does video, audio, runs RR to program the scanner. Maybe a reasonable solution for you?

Here are the 3 letter morse code elements transmitted for each of the tower locations, in parenthesis:

Site 1 - Towers Mountain (TOW)
Site 2 - Green's Peak (GRE)
Site 3 - Mount Lemmon (LEM)
Site 4 - Hualapai Mountain (HUA)
Site 5 - Roof Butte (RBT)
Site 6 - Child's Mountain (CHI)
Site 7 - Mount Elden (ELD)
Site 8 - Mule Mountain (MUL)
Site 9 - South Mountain (SOU)
Site 10 - Telegraph Pass (TEL)

I believe The freqs are also reused. So it is possible that the tower you hear on that freq is not the tower that I hear on that freq.

I believe only 5 of the 10 sites are listed in the DB. And only 2 share the same frequency. That should be updated, then.
My phone doesn't do .pdf's, but I'll keep the link in mind, thank you.

I recently lost my job with Fry's, so nothing is reasonable for me, short of free, unfortunately. But thank you for the suggestion.

Just thought I'd post an observation, and if someone is able and willing to look into it, and make any corrections, if they need to be made, great. If not, then it'll stay as is. That's all. Thanks.
