Hi. Me again. After what I found about the STOCS system from the CT.GOV website, I decided to poke around a little more this weekend.

I came across this document:
http://www.ct.gov/demhs/lib/demhs/coord_council/demhs_minutes_10_26_05.pdf

which has a nice little map of Area 5 at the bottom. So where is the rest of the map?

Right here: http://www.ct.gov/demhs/cwp/view.asp?a=1903&q=295316&demhsNav=|

Now, you want to know what frequencies to listen for, right? During my search I found this:
http://www.ct.gov/demhs/lib/demhs/2005_june_13_draft_natural_disaster_plan_(2).pdf

Page 49 gives us frequencies for the 5 areas.
Area 1 - 153.755 MHz
Area 2 - 153.800 MHz
Area 3 - 153.935 MHz
Area 4 - 153.965 MHz
Area 5 - 153.740 MHz

From a little more surfing, it seems almost every town used to be licensed:
http://www.99main.com/~kd1ld/swcp.html

However, most of the Area licenses are no longer active. I believe CT State has licenses for these now. Must be only simplex operation?

Other frequencies found in this document:
46.16 - State Fire Radio Network
145.11 - Amateur Radio (voice)
145.06 - Amateur Radio (packet)

The next page makes reference to the Coast Guard and Channel 16 - which I am assuming is Marine Ch. 16 (156.80) See a full list here: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/marcomms/vhf.htm

The CT SCANNER website lists the PL for Area freqs as 162.2
http://ctscanner.tripod.com/ct_emergency_management.htm
It also lists 2 lowband freqs (42.52 and 45.6) any idea if these are still active?

Wow I talk a lot :) But thats OK. As always, if anyone has more information please feel free to share it.

Thanks

Y10K,
Thanks for the information.
Looks like they produce this report on a monthly basis, so I'll be checking back.
I will also start monitoring all of the STOCS system to see what I hear.

I'll report back...... Thanks, Tom/G

I know that in the town of Coventry we are licensed on the VHF frequency for region 3, although we only have one radio at our tower that has this frequency. The rest of our emergency responders are either on Low band or UHF. So if there actually is a natural disaster this system would be completely useless. On a recent weekend we has some pretty substantial flooding that almost made our town an island due to so many roads and bridges being washed out. Our town manager called the office of emergency managmenet emergency number to report our situation and got a mail box full announcement. In addition when he attemped a fax the machine never picked up. Apparently they are only available M-F 9 to 5. I am not sure how it is in other states but our fire department and police department pretty much realize we are on our own in the event of a real disaster.
