DENVER - Police are searching for a driver who crashed into a house Saturday just after 5 a.m.
Authorities say a late-model Subaru plowed into the side of a home at Bates and Zurich. Police say the driver got out of the car and ran away.
A grandmother and her two grandsons, 14 and 3 years old, were inside the home at the time, but they were not hurt.
Police say the car first hit a power pole before smashing into the house.
Firefighters say that pole may have saved lives.
"It was very fortunate, in fact, it looks like the power pole slowed the vehicle enough to keep the vehicle from going perhaps completely through the house and killing the occupants," said Assistant Chief Gregory Champlin of Denver Fire. "So I would consider it very fortunate."
There is no information yet on a suspect description.
Firefighters shored up the damaged wall and city inspectors were out to assess the structural integrity of the house.
