07/12 ~ At 13:20 Engine 24 was dispatched to an outside smoke investigation at 8101 East Belleview Avenue. Upon arrival 24′s found light smoke showing from the attic space above the Pho Saigon Le Restaurant, secured a water supply and filled the group. Usually closer companies had been operating at a vehicle fire in a parking garage and began clearing to assist. Truck 16 laddered the roof on the alpha side and Engine 16 went to work on the plug at Belleview & Ulster. Companies began pulling ceiling and opening up the attic. Tower 22 positioned on the Alpha / Bravo corner and Truck 19 toward the Delta Side. District Chief 3 took command and Chief 4 took the Charlie Division. Multiple crews opened up the roof while crews below worked attack lines. Heavy fire began venting from the roof, prompting an order for all crews to get off and a 2nd Alarm. Shortly after that smoke began seeping from the edges of the HVAC units on the Charlie Side, a withdraw was ordered and a defensive attack with Tower 22′s master stream was used. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes and crews transitioned back inside for overhaul. No injuries reported and investigators were called to the scene.
