I'm a newbie to the hobby and am looking for any local folks to stay in touch with and to help me out, or for me to join some kind of club in the area...

If anyone knows of any such entities (people and/or groups) please send me their information!

Thanks so much!!

Hey SuperCraig, welcome to the Colorado forum. Well this is the first start as being in the club..We have semi annual meeting and you just missed the one on Sunday at Luke pizza place.-Great Pizza by the way- anyway we had nearly 30 to 35 people show up, is what i heard ( i was there but i did'nt count on how many i know there was alot) scannist show with there scanners(did see alot of PRO-106's) and laptops to show the programs and programming radios we also had quite a few ham operators there as well, someone did show up with the new Uniden 396XT which i missed that one. The next one would be around October i believe.. Would like to throw an idea out for maybe a summer picnic meet somewhere at a park or something. Anyway welcome..

We also have Mountain NewsNet, Inc statewide which was formed in 1992 and has over 500 subscribers and 10 active dispatchers we provide incident notification services via alphanumeric pager, email, text messaging etc and are also involved in getting a lot of on-line scanner feeds in the state going which are available at scan america.

Welcome Craig and certainly start the discussion anytime if you have any questions there are some very knowledgeable minds here always more than happy to help.

Thanks for the friendly "welcomes" !

Yes, I had read about the Sunday event last week. I already had tickets to the Vail Film Festival (which was a blast, btw). I was bummed to hear you only meet twice a year... I was hoping more for a quarterly thing actually... if there's enough interest in a summer event, I'd be interested in that for sure (schedule permitting).

I eventually want to get into Ham (one of the main reasons I chose to get a scanner, as someone said I should "listen in" to the Ham operators to get an idea of how people are communicating with their radios). We'll see. One thing at a time. I'm now in the process of choosing which software product I want to use, and will likely start a thread here in the local section to get some local opinions (maybe even meet someone who's using the one I end up choosing to use)... we'll see how it all goes.

Thanks again for the hello and welcome!

another option for information to consider sunday nights @ 2000 hours the rocky mountain monitoring net. on several of the ham repeaters. 147.225 seems to work the best in the Denver metro area.

Welcome to the forum Craig. I can't imagine any question that couldn't be answered by the people here. Which scanner did you buy, and what are your main targets to monitor?
