I just heard DPD dispatch advise units to standby for a simulcast call from District 6. When I tuned to the normal Agency / Simulcast group (04-000 / 512) nothing was heard...

After checking Unitrunker it looks like they are now patching for simulcast calls:

I am guessing this is part of their P25 migration plan as the same patch setup also showed up on their P25 site:

Good catch, Steve!

That's one reason I listen to all the Denver and Aurora patch channels.

Aurora is already doing that.

There is another recent post discussing all the patch channels for Denver and Aurora if not all of them are listed in RR yet.

They're rolling the XG-75s out to DPD, so I wonder if those are making it into the dispatch center for backups or if they're moving to new consoles.

I've heard a few agency calls for the usual city-wide stuff today. Kind of odd that they're taking two different approaches. Using the patch excludes people from hearing those city-wide calls that are on talk groups other than the primary dispatch channels.

The P25 system must not have the "agency call" feature like EDACS does so maybe they are practicing/testing what they will have to do on the P25 system by doing it on EDACS at the same time.

El Paso County S.O. does the patch thing for announcements but they even patch the tactical channels. Not as many channels as Denver has though.

Are any radios affiliated with any of those talk groups on that site?

If not, that's super lame.

The P25 system has announcement talk group calls, so they could mimic that functionality by attaching the agency call to a corresponding announcement talk group through the EDACS Migration Gateway. No need to do patches or simulselect for that, but who knows what the actual reason is.

No affiliations / grants yet, just the patches. I haven't had the chance to log the Lakewood sites, anyone seeing 35### patches on 101 & 202?

Yesterday I heard the DPD District 1 dispatcher tell a supervisor that they are testing new radios. No mention of what kind or any other specifics.

That was at 5:40 pm, in response to not hearing what 140 said to her and she missed. She said, "Sorry, we are testing radios."

The dispatcher was using a console with a radio ID (512) that I've never noticed them use before. D1 dispatch used this ID from 3:26 pm to 7:18 pm.

Then 512 appeared on EEB Systems-1 for a couple minutes just before 9 pm.

Later in the evening they were using that ID on District-2s dispatch as well from 9:21 pm to 9:54 pm.

They have not used that radio ID again since that night but we should probably keep a lookout for them using that one again since it is associated with them testing.

They said it was the new Optima computer/radio console on radio ID 512 and they were trying to work the bugs out of it. They were doing "mixed mode patches".

Yikes. I heard Denver EEB radio techs talking about "testing on the encrypted police channels for all dispatch for the new mobiles" and a deadline of Feb 15th.

And they just got off the phone with Lakewood and "they want to do the same thing and encrypt all their groups as well."

Not surprising Denver has been playing cat and mouse with the public and media since 12/20/92 when they went EDACS.

I seem to recall the current chief's former department was full ENC.

Let's see if the media rolls over like they did with FTC.

Well, given that all their dispatch channels are broadcast online, I would be surprised if any new radio system they buy ISN'T fully encrypted. IMO broadcastify is a great selling point for encryption, especially if you're a city council member who knows nothing whatsoever about radios. I'm sure people will argue "well, they should stop conducting swat-type operations on primary dispatch channels and move those to dedicated encrypted channels like Longmont does, etc". Good luck on that one, I'm sure the city council wants to spend a lot of time telling Denver PD how to use their radio channels...

Sorry, back to the original subject, about that "All cars standby for a simulcast on channel 6" at 22:16 on Jan 17th...

When all channels were patched this is what came across on the SAID patch channel:

"Attention all officers... Looking for Officer XXXXXXX. Officer XXXXXXX keyed up on channel-6, cannot raise him. Badge number XXXXX. Anyone knowing his whereabouts, come to channel-6."

Channel-6 dispatch also did the patch thing on Jan 15th at 17:06 on a robbery at gunpoint that had just occurred.

But I am sure that was not all the times they have patched instead of simulcasting. And before and after both of these times that they (including D6) patched, dispatch used the simulcast for similar announcements, so later I will try to go through all of the simulcasts and patches for past week and see if I can find some correlation as to why they have been doing it for some and not others (and there may be none except for the fact that they were just testing - we will see).

---

On a slightly related subject of testing we were discussing earlier, the dispatch console with radio ID 512 that they were using for testing Friday was back online but on TAC-6 this morning around 8 am for a few minutes.

Earlier today I was able to hear Denver PD District-1 & 2 dispatch channels on MARCS site 606.

TGID 35072 is indeed Denver PD Dist-1 Dispatch
TGID 35083 is Dist-2 Dispatch

It only lasted a few minutes and everything is now quiet on the P25 side.
