Denver PD new radio system ???

Does anyone know when Denvers new radio system will take effect? I know I was reading in the R.M.News several days ago that within the next 90 days or so. Also does anyone know what kind of system they will be going to? I haven't seen any new changes in the RR Database for Denver.
Please keep us posted about any information.

They are not going to a new system; it is a Ma/Com scheme they bought that makes it simple to tie Aurora, Arvada, Denver, Lakewood And State DTRS (and maybe a few more) together with Quick patches that can be set up on the fly. If I'm not mistaken, I think the hardware for it may be in the Aurora Comm center.

Of course any radios Denver is buying now are ProVoice capable, so that will probably be an issue in the future.

The short answer is it won't affect listening to the system much at all.

This is refering to MA/Com's NetworkFirst system. The main difference will be the addition of several new talkgroups on Denver and at least the State system. In fact I suspect it will mostly gather dust. This quote illustrates it:

For example, when a Douglas County sheriff's deputy serves a warrant in Denver, he may be at the back door while a Denver officer is at the front door, and their radios are incompatible.

BUT, this requires that the out-of-area officer be in range of their home system, and will introduce a significant delay between transmission and reception on the other radio. Why not just switch to I-TAC Simplex?

It makes some sense in linking different bands, but most of the VHF and UHF are outside the metro area, and thus, if responding to an incident, they will be out of range of their home system (this includes Boulder), thus making the NetworkFirst system USELESS.

Indeed they are. It must be enabled (with money) to be used however.

Curt, Where are you observing the Panthers in Aurora, Public Safety?

Jags are have have been the primary radios for a long time.
