Approx 11:15A, DPD officer shot on a traffic stop, W Clyde Pl (approx. 3700 N) & Federal Blv. Shot multiple times, critical condition @ DHMC. 1 suspect in custody, 2 more at large. NFI ATT.

Wow. Totally insane. I guess this gives some perspective about who has more things to worry about during a "routine" traffic stop (i.e. officer vs. civilian being stopped).
I said "routine" because I thought the PIO was saying Lopez didn't know about the nearby carjacking at the time of his stop.

Yep. There is some confusion still about whether the car he stopped was carjacked or if the wounded suspect jacked one afterward, or both. Either way, he was unaware of anything unusual when he stopped them.
I was also told the first officer on scene applied the tourniquet, but CBS4 said it was the paramedics. Again, it's just good it was done: he took a bullet in the femur with a severed femoral artery. DHMC said they replaced all of his blood.

Nothing is "routine" on a traffic stop. You never know who you're stopping until you get to the window. By then it may be too late. They could have just robbed a bank and you have no idea
