Happening now (listen in on DPD District 5 Dispatch TG-593)...

A teenager stole a vehicle and crashed into a DPD officer (at 07:18:38 am) who saw it go to MLK school at E 46th Ave and Flanders Way where he bailed and ran into the school.

The school is locked down and DPD has a perimeter and looking through the school. Listening to Denver Public Schools security channel, they were notified by DPD but they are very disorganized and confused about what's going on. They still have no security at the school even though they were notified a while ago.

A 7News chopper also heard the call and sent a chopper over head and DPD was trying to call them on the DPD channel to see if they could help but 7News was told by DIA to leave their airspace immediately so they could not help.

Denver Public Schools also unnecessarily locked down Omar Blair Charter School, Green Valley Ranch Elem & Waller Elementary. DPD says that the suspect is in the MLK school and the others didn't need to be locked down at all.

It sounds like a teenage kid was late to school, stole a car, hit a cop, and dumped the car in front of the school. They are reviewing security video to try to ID the suspect in the school. He has tan pants, black and white shirt, and a black coat.

DPS security will always APPEAR to do something; but it is generally related to putting on a good show for the peanut gallery.
One time when I was working on a contract job in a crawl space I had chatty security guy that let me in the building holding a light for me and a pretty big rat ran right between his legs--he dropped the light and made it back up the ladder in record time leaving me to hold my mini mag flashlight between my teeth---

DPS security arrived and, along with DPD, reviewed the security video. By 8:11 am, DPD decided to break down the perimeter because the video did not show conclusive evidence that the suspect entered the school.
